I am going to keep this short because we discuss planter upgrades on a regular basis, however now is the time that planter decisions are being made. Here is a top 5 improvement list on how to improve your PLANTER VERSATILITY this year.
  1. New Disk Openers. Look into new 3.5mm or 4mm thick heavy duty disk openers, these can last a lot longer and eliminate downtime.
  2. Closing Wheels: Get the closing wheels that fit you best. Today there are 28 closing wheel companies to choose from. Fennig Equipment has tested and worked with customers in all situations, give us a call to help find the right ones for you.
  3. Asses Input Rates: Our goal is to help farmers succeed and this tip means look at soybean rates, can you cut back? Look at fertilizer rates on planter, can you cut back 15%, and cover more acres per fill while spending less on inputs? If you do not know these answers, TEST IT!
  4. Eliminate the No-Till Coulter: No-Till coulters can have a negative effect on planter ride, seed depth, seed trench cleanliness, and yield. We suggest replacing the coulter with row cleaners to clean the row and make for a smoother planter ride. If you would like to try a row or two give us a call and we will be happy to demo row cleaners to you.
  5. Plant Soybeans first: I have heard so many farmers talk about their early planted soybean varieties yielding very well. There are several reasons for this, maximize sunlight uptake and altering stress periods. With most seed companies offering free replant this is a move that required little investment, just Effort!
Cassie's Country Cupboard Weekly Recipe:
Zucchini Brownies

Do you still have shredded zucchini in your freezer from the summer? Use it up in this better-for-you version of boxed brownie mix!
Zucchini Brownies
1 Family Size box (for 13x9 pan) of Brownie Mix
1 ½ - 2 c. shredded zucchini (thawed if previously frozen)
¼ c. unsweetened apple sauce
¼ c. canola/vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
Squeeze out any liquid from the zucchini using a clean kitchen towel. Combine all ingredients together and pour into greased 9x13 dish. Bake as directed on box (you may need to add a couple minutes). Brownies are done when an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

Several projects are in the works currently in our shop. We just finished assembling another Valmar interseeder toolbar. We are putting new blades on a used 30' 570 VT tool, and building 2 Y-Drop Toolbars for this Summer!
No-Till Conference Update

Thanks to those (roughly 1,000) farmers who traveled to Indianapolis this week for the 2019 National No-Till Conference. We had a great time meeting with farmers and talking about several topics. We look forward to next years event!
