Message from President Sara Beacham
|
|
Greetings!
My heart is overflowing! Last week, I walked into our lunch meeting room to be greeted by our amazing Events co-chairs, “Welcome to the Big Top!” The decorations. The events committee dressed to the nines in red and black. A photo booth, popcorn machine, a dessert table filled with homemade cupcakes lining the front of the room, cornhole to the back of the room, treats all over. The electricity was palpable.
Going into this year as president of this amazing club, I made it my goal to keep it light, keep it fun, keep it personal. I wanted to unite our club under our mission to help women and girls and remember why we do what we do as volunteers. I want to give the events committee a huge THANK YOU for bringing my vision of a fun year to life. I also want to send a huge THANK YOU to the club for coming together to celebrate our 92nd year!
This week is full of committee meetings. We have a lot to look forward to in our programs with awards presentations starting February 16th. It looks like we have an opening in our programs on March 16th. If you know of someone who would be a great speaker for our club, contact Roseann Bradley.
Our next big projects are coming up in April, and I need your help! Dream It, Be It – Career Support for High School Girls, is a Soroptimist International of the Americas’ signature program. We coordinate this program with SIBR. Our last DIBI meeting only had two individuals – Babette from SIBR and me from our club. I need three individuals who are willing to help organize and lead the three modules our club is responsible for delivering. The modules are #2 Exploring Careers, #4 Rising Above Obstacles, and #6 Balancing Your Stress. SIBR leads modules #1, #3, and #5, and our clubs coordinate module #7 together. Please, please, please help me organize this amazing program. I cannot do it on my own.
I also need help planning for the live event, Believe to Achieve, my president’s project. I need abled bodies to help me with some details and items on my todo list that I can’t do on my own. Please reach out to me for details. I need YOU!
Okay, enough pleading and groveling. See you in committee meetings and on our District 1 Zoom meeting this Saturday, January 29. Details are included below.
Thank you!
President Sara

Catalyst Wish List
Catalyst (one of our Hands-On projects) has asked us to help with bed linens (sheets, pillows, and blankets) for twin beds, any color or pattern is fine. We encourage white because, if soiled, they can be bleached.
There are 3 ways to participate:
· There will be a bag or box behind the lunch table for your gently used linens or hair supplies until the March 2 Business Meeting
· Call or email Carolyn if you need items picked up
Monetary donations:
· A check or cash donation is always useful. These will be pooled to purchase twin bed sheet sets. Make checks out to SI Chico. There will be an envelope near the collection bag.
They also requested shampoo, conditioner, hair accessories. Please no travel sizes.
Thanks for your assistance!!

SOROPTIMIST CLOTHING SALES
I will not be bringing clothing to every club business meeting in the future. I plan to set up display about every 3 months and will give you advance notice in the eblast.
If you wish to purchase an item, please text me at 530 520 3282 (include your name please) and let me know what clothing you are interested in buying. I am happy to set up a meeting at my home or yours to help you with purchase.
I hope you will continue to support our internal fundraising effort by purchasing soroptimist clothing. Thank you very much.

January Fur Baby and Member of the Month - Chai and Carla Bee
Meet Chai our 6 year old Apple Head Chihuahua.
She’s obviously a special little girl, who enjoys her walks through Bidwell Park, traveling with us in the RV and snuggling anytime she can. She’s very timid and doesn’t take to strangers at all. Which makes her a ferocious watch dog. LOL
When we’re not traveling in our RV, my partner Don & I enjoy kayaking, biking and just enjoying the outdoors.
I joined Soroptimist 3 years ago. I thoroughly enjoy the women I’ve met and strongly support the mission of supporting women and girls here locally and internationally.

Dress a Girl .....…. We plan to get together at Cathy’s Sew&Vac as soon as it’s safe (those nights are so fun & productive!), but with the recent wave of Covid in Butte County, we feel it would be safer to start by individually making some dresses at home.
Let’s get started!
Please let us know how many dress kits you’d like (or if you have supplies to make them on your own, we can send you the instructions).
If you have extra fabric to donate to this worthwhile project (or if you know any seamstresses/quilters), they are always welcomed!
