What's Happening this week: Business Meeting
Message from President Sara Beacham
Greetings!

Happy New Year! Many of you are probably overjoyed that 2021 is behind us and excited to look ahead to 2022. Me, too! Our club has a lot happening in the coming months. January brings us our first business meeting of the new year, a program from Salvation Army (we just donated $10,000 to their mental health program), and then, drumroll please, our 92nd birthday with a special presentation. We are honored to have a special guest joining us at our birthday party; the vice mayor will join our club along with several members of SI Bidwell Rancho as our clubs are presented with a Proclamation from the City of Chico for Soroptimist’s 100 years of service. The last Saturday of the month is our district 1 meeting. This meeting will be on Zoom, so everyone can attend no matter where you are.

In December, we wrapped up our 100-year anniversary billboard campaign. Did you see any of the billboards around town? The Girl Scouts of Northern California Outdoor Pavilion Project is slowly moving forward. We will keep the club updated when we learn more.

Planning continues for the Believe to Achieve (President’s Project) and Dream It, Be It (SIA signature program). Be sure to put these events on your calendar for April 8 and April 9, respectively. Another date you should put on your calendar is April 1-3 for the Sierra Nevada Region conference held at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, Nevada. I love this conference. It gives you a wide lens view of what we do as a club and as part of the larger collective, our region. Let me know if you plan to attend this conference; I can help with roommate assignments and travel to Reno.

We have lots to look forward to in January and in 2022. Happy New Year, Everyone! See you on Wednesday.

I need your help. I am getting concerned about the small number of hotel reservations have been made to date. The areas of the hotel we use for the conference itself, the market area, and the breakout rooms are directly tied to the number of hotel rooms that are booked. I really would appreciate it if you would register for your hotel rooms within the next 10 days. That will help us understand whether we are going to have a successful conference or if the Region is going to take an economic hit on this event. I understand we are still dealing with some uncertainty with regards to COVID-19 and the new strains that are spiking in numbers. But I can assure you from my experience with the Atlantis and attending lunches there weekly, they are not having issues within their venue. So, let’s get the room reservations made so that we can move forward in our plans for conference.

Wishing you all a great New Year.

Best,

Governor Sarah

January Fur Baby and Member of the Month - Chai and Carla Bee

Meet Chai our 6 year old Apple Head Chihuahua.

She’s obviously a special little girl, who enjoys her walks through Bidwell Park, traveling with us in the RV and snuggling anytime she can. She’s very timid and doesn’t take to strangers at all. Which makes her a ferocious watch dog. LOL

When we’re not traveling in our RV, my partner Don & I enjoy kayaking, biking and just enjoying the outdoors.
I joined Soroptimist 3 years ago. I thoroughly enjoy the women I’ve met and strongly support the mission of supporting women and girls here locally and internationally.
ATTENTION ALL SEWISTS: We’re gearing up for Dress a Girl starting late January. If you know how to sew and would like to join us making dresses for young girls in third world countries - round up a few of your sewing friends and join us for this worthy ‘hands on' project. More information coming soon.
