MSU and consortium partners recently won a USAID award to provide services and training on water and sanitation globally. You are invited to hear our partners present and discuss their organizations' approaches to working in this sector.

John Brogan
Water Sanitation & Hygiene Advisor, Helvetas
|
|
John Brogan has been a WASH Advisor at Helvetas since June, 2020, where he provides technical guidance to the Swiss Water & Sanitation Consortium and to Helvetas' international programmes. He has 25 years of international experience in the design and management of development and humanitarian interventions related to water, sanitation and hygiene with civil society organizations and governments.
John began his international work with the Peace Corps where he worked as a Community Health Volunteer in Mauritania. Since then he has supported civil society water sector initiatives based in West Africa, South Asia and the Middle East. His thematic focus within WASH includes health care facilities, schools and prisons, nutrition, disaster risk management and innovation.
Mr. Brogan completed a Bachelor of Science in human physiology at Michigan State University (1996) and has received post graduate training in WASH, leadership, and engineering geology.

Deepa Karthykeyan is a co-founder and partner for Athena Infonomics, a global consultancy that combines social science research methods and ICT tools to drive innovation in policies, processes and programs in global development.
Deepa works closely with governments and foundations to provide advisory support on urban sanitation and finance. She has been instrumental in developing and leading a number of multi-disciplinary programs to address the challenges of “service-delivery” in changing urban contexts. Her core interests include urban infrastructure and governance. She also sits on the Technical Advisory Group for the Global Partnership for Development Data (Data4SDGs).
Ms. Karthykeyan holds a master’s degree in economics from the National University of Singapore and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bangalore University.

Melissa Revotskie has worked with Water For People since 2017. In her role as Senior Regional Program Officer for Africa, she monitors and evaluates the progress of water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania. She also reviews external proposals and reports for programmatic accuracy to help secure grants totaling over $15M annually.
Additionally, Melissa supports country programs in their strategic and operational planning toward Water For People’s long-term vision of universal and sustainable water and sanitation services.
Ms. Revotskie graduated from Brown University (2009) with a degree in International Relations and holds a Certificate of Development Practice in Monitoring and Evaluation from Regis University.

Moenes Youannis
Chief Operating Officer, ME&A
|
|
Moenes Youannis has more than 35 years of international development experience. He currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer and the Water, Environment, and Climate Change Team Leader at ME&A, Inc., and ME&A WADI II small business award IDIQ Manager.
His experience includes 27 years working for USAID in the conceptualization, design, implementation, and performance monitoring of USAID funded Water sector and Infrastructure programs. He served as a USAID Team Leader for USAID programs totaling more than $400 million including water sector infrastructure programs; water sector policy and regulatory reform; institutional strengthening; and community upgrading.
He led the development and delivery of USAID’s Engineering and Construction Contracting Management (ECCM) training courses, developed several manuals for USAID, and delivered nine USAID Worldwide webinars on the same subject.
Mr. Youannis holds a B.S. in architecture from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and was part of the Development Studies Program at American University, in Washington, DC.
Mr. Youannis received several awards from USAID, including a Superior Honor Award from USAID Administrator “In recognition of outstanding achievements in improving water services to millions of Egyptians while serving with the United States Agency for International Development.”

Global Innovations in Development, Engagement, and Scholarship (Global IDEAS) catalyzes interdisciplinary thought, research, and action to solve global/grand challenges in an international development context. We facilitate communities of practice; collaborate and engage with external partners and donors; enhance opportunities for faculty and staff to conduct research, education, and engagement; and provide proposal development and project management to support MSU’s international objectives.
