Last Day to Sign Up: Spring Masterwork Chorale

Rehearsals: Tuesdays 7:30-9 PM starting 1/14 | Register Online

Join us as we learn and perform Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem with new orchestration for organ, two pianos, and percussion!

Our performance takes place on Saturday, May 3 at 4 PM.


Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:30-9 PM, starting on January 14, with two extra rehearsals from 12-2 PM on Sunday, February 23 and Sunday, March 30. For concert week, we will have an extra rehearsal on Wednesday, April 30 and dress rehearsal on Thursday, May 1. 


Registration Fee: $100 (students and FUMCSD Chancel Choir members free!). Be sure to register by January 6!

UMC Scholarships from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry

GBHEM Scholarships offers financial aid to United Methodist students (must be a church member for 1 year+) pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.


Every year, they award an average of $4.5 million to help students in the United States and abroad pursue their dreams through higher education. Scholarships are available for all ages and degree programs!

Racial Justice Sunday: Sunday, Jan. 19

2024/25 Grantees - 9 AM | Church Gathering - 12:15 PM | Volunteers Needed!

Join us for a special "Racial Justice Sunday" celebration at First Church on Sun. Jan. 19. First, hear from this year's Racial Justice Grantees about the work they do and how you can get involved. Learn more about each organization and the Racial Justice Grant program on our website.


Then join us for a special All Church Gathering at 12:15 PM in Linder Hall. We'll enjoy a catered lunch and a special performance by Common Ground Theatre, the premier San Diego Black theatre that produces works by and about people of African descent that entertain, educates, and connect with audiences of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds to provide the community a common ground. Cost is $15 per person – register online by January 16!

2025 Sankofa Pilgrimage

Interest meeting on Jan. 26 | Trip takes place June 2 - 9

We're thrilled to announce that we'll be taking another journey of discovery in 2025! Save the date for June 2 - 9, 2025. We'll be traveling to St. Louis, Missouri; Springfield, Illinois; and Chicago, Illinois. There's so much history that we'll unpack together. Our itinerary includes tours and discussions at notable landmarks and museums, including Gateway Arch National Park, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, and Emmett Till's resting place. You can register for the trip online.


If you'd like more information before registering, we encourage you to join our interest meeting on Sunday, January 26 from 12-1:30 PM. It will be available in person and on Zoom. Registration for the interest meeting will be live next week.

The next event in the Cultural Events Music Series is coming up on January 25 – and it's one that you won't want to miss: vibrant ranchera music played by Mariachi Garibaldi, a 15-student ensemble is directed by Dr. Jeffrey Nevin.


Dr. Nevin is Professor of Music and Director of Mariachi Activities at Southwestern College in Chula Vista where he has developed one of the first mariachi programs in the country. Dr. Nevin is author of Virtuoso Mariachi, which details the history and development of Mexico’s traditional music. His student ensemble is in frequent demand around southern California. Arrive early to claim your favorite seat!

Donations Needed: Dominican Republic Service-Learning Trip

Accepting financial donation online & medical supplies in office

This February, our youth are traveling with Congregation Beth Israel to the Dominican Republic for an interfaith a service-learning trip to help build housing. Our youth need your support to help offset the cost of participation, and to allow us to gift medical supplies through our partner organization to the people of La Guama, the village we will be staying and working in.


Here are some ways you can help:

  • Donate money (online, by check, or on Sunday mornings)
  • Donate medical supplies including first aid kits, bandages, gauze, gently-used eyeglasses, and orthopedic braces (bring to church office)

Donating altar flowers on Sunday is a way to recognize significant events in your family’s life.  Bouquets are $65 each and anyone can donate one or two bouquets. If you are interested, please contact Demmie Divine in the church office about available dates.

PRE-K, INFANTS, AND TODDLERS | Sundays 8:40 AM - 12 PM

This program offers a loving and nurturing environment in the Multipurpose Room located in the Children's Growing Center.

Kids First

Sunday School: K-5

Please sign your kids in in the Lower Sanctuary before the start of service.

We start in the Sanctuary for 9 AM Traditional Worship and then leave as a group immediately following A Time With Children. Parents pick up kids from The Cove immediately following service. No Sunday School on the 1st Sunday of the month – kids are encouraged to worship with their family and participate in Communion.

 

Middle School and High School students are invited to sit together in the Sanctuary every Sunday to worship as a group!
