CABE Chapter Leaders, Board, and Staff Convene for JDA...
The Fall 2020 Virtual JDA on December 8th was highly successful!
Almost 40 CABE chapter officers from across the state, along with 13 CABE board and staff, convened to connect and learn from each other.

Participants learned about the impact that Castañeda v. Pickard has had and continues to have on education as it approaches its 40th anniversary. Professor Rachel F. Moran, Distinguished Professor of Law at UC Irvine, shared interesting historical facts about the case, many of which were new to those attending.

In the Chapter Panel Discussion, leaders from four chapters shared their best practices for engaging members and conducting chapter meetings and events virtually during the pandemic. In addition to virtual chapter meetings, chapter leaders shared other online chapter events that included a Día de Los Muertos Calavera Paint Night fundraiser (Chapter 76 Yolo/Woodland), CABE Whittier Podcast Radio (Chapter 40 Whittier), BEST Awards and Leadership Book Chat (Chapter 6 Riverside), and a local conference and T-shirt fundraiser (Chapter 48 Ventura County). The CABE Team provided the latest CABE updates and announcements and provided chapter leaders access to virtual resources to support online chapter meetings, events, and activities.

CABE congratulates CABE Pepperdine's New Chapter Officers!
Linda Guzman, principal of St. Paul Dual Language Academy and CABE Pepperdine's new president, submits the following report:

CABE Pepperdine #3 celebrated the installation of their newly elective leadership team on December 1st. The event was a little different this year due to COVID-19 and the celebration was virtual. The new team was installed via Zoom, but that did not deter from the celebratory mood! Dr. Reyna García Ramos, Pepperdine’s faculty liaison, led the ceremony with a warm welcome. The team was excited to see Dr. Carolina Cerna, CABE’s Region 3 representative, who led the leadership team in stating the CABE installation officer pledge.

Then, the newly elected president, Linda Guzman, addressed the new members of the Pepperdine CABE chapter on the topic of what community-based activities could be planned, despite the pandemic. She also shared the benefits of being a CABE member.

The new CABE team has already hit the ground running and has organized a Zoom meeting for January 26th. Dr. Kevin Wong will speak on “Teacher Motivation in Hong Kong Amidst Social Unrest and COVID-19.”
