HISTORIC DISTRICT CLEAN-UP

We received this from Shandy Carroll at the Successor Agency regarding clean-up of the historic buildings:

The Successor Agency has contracted DKS to provide maintenance and monitoring of the Historic District buildings. They will now be doing periodic surveillance as well as walking through the buildings and providing a report to the Successor Agency. The first tasks on their list are:

  • Remove weeds from the base of buildings
  • Remove swallows nests before nesting birds come
  • Clean walls from bird feces
  • Clean up piles of trash and litter that have accumulated or been dumped on the historic district properties, including where someone has thrown their dog poo over the fences
  • Secure the buildings against trespass by humans
  • Replace broken locks
  • Replace boarded windows
  • Fix exhaust cap on warehouse roof that blew down in a storm
  • Fix falling down roof tiles in the storage yard

Residents are kindly asked to report any damage, trespass, dumping, or other issues to the Historic Buildings to the Successor Agency email SuccessorAgency@countyofmonterey.gov.

If trespassers are seen trying to enter the building please contact the Sherrif directly at 831 755 5111 or submit a crime tip here: https://mcso.countyofmonterey.gov/contact-us

All of this should be completed in the next month, with the exception of the roof tile stabilization which may require extra staffing.

If you tried to contact them and the email address wasn't working, try again, it's been repaired. If you see work happening let us know!

Friends of the Library Update

Congratulations to the winner of the EG Library logo contest, Lily Flores!

The most recent update from our librarians this week is that work is still happening behind the scenes, with ground-breaking in 2026 and completion in 2027.

A great way to help at the moment is to contribute to the Opening Day Fund. Librarians decide what furniture and equipment they need, and also stock the library with an Opening Day collection of books. Donations from us will supplement the budget and help East Garrison librarians get the fixtures, furniture and books they need. Everyone who gives will have their name on a bookplate (with Lily's logo!) in a book from the Opening Day collection.

To contribute to the Opening Day Fund go to EGLibraryFund. The sooner we give, the better they will be able to budget.

To join other Friends so we're ready with help whenever they need us, (or to help turn Lily's art into a printable bookplate) email friendsofeglibrary@gmail.com.
