Dear Friends,
Welcome to the new year 2023. For me, this means a clean slate and a chance to start fresh. Every year I make a resolution to lose five pounds and try to start the year off with a sensible diet. I never lose the five pounds and ultimately must live with the fact that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions! I decided that this year is the end of self-delusion. So, the only resolutions I’m making this year are for our Brandeis chapter to be successful and profitable. I’m manifesting more new members and several exciting events.
Last week, we held our annual University on Wheels event at the Desert Willow Golf Resort. The day dawned with perfect weather (the rain held off) and an oversold crowd. Thanks to Beverly Ross, our event chair, the décor was charming, and the room looked lovely. Our speaker, Neil Swidey, a Professor of Journalism from Brandeis University, was fascinating and informative. The crowd enjoyed an excellent meal and a wonderful lecture.
In October, we held our Season Preview Showcase Luncheon at the Renaissance Esmeralda hotel. We introduced our new Study Group Chairman, Gail Fisher and thanked Carol Radin for an amazing job well done.
Speaking of jobs well done, our Wine and Cheese opening event was a smashing success as was our English High Tea in the Ventana Room at Sun City. I observed many new members having a wonderful time. We had a pop-up jewelry party at the home of jewelry designer, Barbara Price. So much going on…
At present, we are working on a New Members Coffee in February to be held at the lovely home of Gail Minkow in Sun City. As always, we will have a Book and Author Luncheon in March at a venue to be determined. It is my hope that we will continue to have sold out attendance at all the wonderful things we have planned for the year 2023. Look for the flyers detailing all these events and be sure to mark your calendars.
I want to wish everyone a wonderful start to this promising new year. I wish our members good health and much happiness for the coming days. For those who have lost loved ones this past year, we send our most sincere condolences.

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN
Dear Brandeis Members,
Every two years our chapter has a process for nominating a new slate of officers. The Nominating Committee is presently working on that process to name the next leaders for the 2023-2025 term of office. The offices to be filled are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Parliamentarian.
Are you interested in being a part of the leadership team? Will you volunteer?
Now is your opportunity to step up. Our chapter needs members with new ideas and the energy to turn those ideas into new experiences for everyone. Be that member
who continues the Chapter’s legacy of providing a warm and collegial environment dedicated to friendship, intellectual stimulation and just plain fun.

The Legacy of Louis: Inspiring Inquiry
The Legacy of Louis: Inspiring Inquiry will reinvigorate the Brandeis Library's mission to empower its community to become scholars, creators, and innovators through the creation of two interactive additions to the Library. The first will be the construction of a research archive of original letters, photographs, documents and family objects that shed light on the life and the lasting contributions of Justice Louis D. Brandeis.
The second addition to the Brandeis Library will be the creation of a new Judaica reading room in the library. This space will provide the Brandeis community with a place to engage with Jewish texts outside of the typical classroom and religious environments. By presenting Jewish texts in conversation with writings from cultural and religious traditions from around the world, the room will serve scholars and students alike.
