...you've served as active pallbearer at a patient's funeral.
...you've given the eulogy for a former patient's funeral.
...you take care of two patients 100 years apart in age on the same day, YOU MIGHT BE A FAMILY DOC!
A message from the President of the Board of Trustees
The last year has been a challenge for us all at every level. As the pandemic began there was great uncertainty about how to cope and how to plan for the future. It was a challenge for the FMEC Board and staff, for our friends and partners and for family medicine and healthcare, in general.
I am proud to say that the FMEC has adapted and grown considerably during the last year. We held a highly successful virtual meeting. It exceeded expectations from both the programmatic and financial standpoints. In large part the success was a function of the FMEC staff who demonstrated significant adaptive capacity as we worked our way through the year.
We were also able to add execuive-level staff who have proved to be indispensable to our team.
Ms. Susan Eckert, who retired after 25 years of leadership with the United Way of Lancaster Pennsylvania, joined our team. Her experience with fundraising benefited the FMEC greatly.
In addition Mr. Doug Hull joined the FMEC as chief financial officer. He retired after many years of leadership with not-for-profit organizations in the Dayton Ohio area. These two individuals joined an already talented staff and helped us navigate a clear path forward.
We launched a Legacy Campaign whose goal is to raise $500,000 over the next five years. We have already achieved about half of that amount in contributions and pledges. The FMEC is a productive and sustainable organization.
With financial support from the Samueli Foundation, Wayne Jonas MD and his faculty team have launched the FMEC Integrative Health Learning Community. Fourteen sites from across the U.S. are learning how to use a range of integrative health tools in their practices.
We created a podcast channel that reveals the potential of Family Medicine. There are interviews with Family Physician innovators, book authors and leaders. Be sure to subscribe to the FMEC Podcast through your podcast app. Search for "FMEC Podcasts". Click here to view on Apple Podcast Preview.
We also anticipate adding new learning communities.
We are excited about 2021! We are planning to hold a hybrid meeting this October in Pittsburgh, PA. With the early vaccination of healthcare personnel and expanding nationwide programs that will include vaccines for most medical students, we believe that a face-to-face event will be possible.
We have big plans for the coming year.
We are a “catalyst, convener, and incubator.“
