"You Belong Here"

Each week we will feature one of our pathways to determine where you belong among any/multiple pathways at Sonora High School. This week we will feature AG. One of our newest pathways is our AG Construction Pathway. This pathway consists of four distinct courses that students have the opportunity to take as early as 9th grade. Shop Skills is a course that will give students an introduction to basic hands-on skills in the following areas: welding (both oxyacetylene and electric), electricity and electronics, metal fabrication, plumbing, concrete and masonry, small gas engines, hydraulics, woodworking, tool repair, painting, and project planning. The basic skills acquired by the student taking this class will benefit him/her throughout their life regardless of career choice. This is also the course in which students will use the virtual Augmented Atwater. This is the industry's most realistic welding simulation solution for classroom training. For beginner to advanced-level weld students, the AugmentedArc system simulates multiple welding processes, blending real-world and computer-generated images into a unique, augmented reality environment. Mr. Johnson had students using the virtual wielder in class. In the end, he was able to give the students immediate feedback as to how they performed using the ViewSonic Display to show to other students. The feedback was immediate feedback on the working angle, travel angle, travel speed, and aim of your weld. The video is stored and available for replay for student and instructor review via teacher software.

The other three courses in the pathway include Introduction to Ag Mechanics, and Advance Ag Mechanics and will have a capstone course in Agriculture Fabrication and Construction. Built within each of the courses are opportunities for students to participate in Future Farmers of America (FFA) Activities and have Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Projects.

AG is one of Sonora's most long-standing programs that go back to when the school first opened in 1967. In recent years we have put a new twist on the pathway in that we have plans to infuse college courses in the pathway so that any student who completes this amazing pathway will be more college and career ready than any other high school student. For more information about this or any other AG Pathway, please contact Mr. Jeremy Johnson at [email protected]. #beholdblueandgold #Youbelonghere

Parking Flow

In the interest of safety and efficiency, please adhere to the SOHS Drop-Off/Pick-Up Zone routes identified in the image below. The specified ingress and egress routes have been developed to ensure the safety of our students and all drivers during the busy morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times.

Raider Athletics

Boys Basketball:

The boys played an amazing first quarter against the Sunny Hills Lancers on Tuesday night. They were led by Yoda Oke who scored 16 points in the first quarter and finished with 34 points and 12 rebounds. The Raiders were able to hold on after a late charge by the Lancers and finish with a 9-point victory. Their record moves to 5-0 in League and we look forward to a great second round of Freeway League action.

Girls Basketball:

Tuesday night was an exciting basketball night at Sonora HS. The Girls game came down to the final minute as your Raiders emerged with a narrow victory over Sunny Hills. The Raiders are now 5-0 through the first round of League and look to continue their success as they enter the second round of Freeway League play.

Boys Soccer:

Rain has come to define our soccer season and create a tremendous amount of adversity. The boys fought hard against Sunny Hills this week and fell 2-0. The boys played very well but just could not finish on their scoring opportunities. We are very proud of the effort and energy that they played with and know that it is going to pay off.

Girls Soccer:

Your Raider Girls Soccer team faced some adversity this past week with back-to-back losses to Troy and Sunny Hills. However, the Raiders found their grit in overcoming a late 1-0 deficit against Buena Park to earn a 2-1 victory on Senior Night. Congratulations to all of our Seniors for their amazing accomplishments over the past 4 years and for each of their roles in the success that our Girls Soccer team has enjoyed the past couple of years.

Girls Water Polo:

Your Raider Girls Water Polo team has battled during their Freeway League action and come up just short. They take on Sunny Hills on Tuesday next week and are looking forward to carousel action. Keep up the good work ladies!

Wrestling:

Such an exciting week for our Raider wrestlers! On Wednesday night, Raider wrestling took their undefeated Freeway League record with them as they traveled to La Habra HS to take on the Highlanders. The Boy's Varsity team was tied 29-29 and it all came down to the final match. The Raiders earned an enormous pin to secure the victory. Congrats to our JV team and our Girls wrestling team for victories over La Habra as well. The Raiders remain undefeated in League and will host Sunny Hills in the final league match. Let's close out that undefeated Freeway League Championship!
