From The Pastor's Desk...

Greetings in the name of our Lord!

I actually type this from a new desk - one I've assembled so that my home office can take shape.  As we all look towards a new year, I couldn't help but look up the definition of new - of recent advent (my new desk) or just discovered (a new medicine).
This New Year's day may be a threshold from Advent to vaccine - we hope - and it gives us a moment to pause and consider what Christ's advent brought new to this earth, as well as what knowledge we gained in the past year that makes our future new, novel, different.  Beyond the vaccine, we have learned the value of relationships and of time together.  Perhaps on some level we have rediscovered love - what companionship means.
I pray that 2021 will be a year in which companionship can blossom - seeing how Christ comes to walk with us, making time to be together as Church, acknowledging the needs of our neighbors and being companions to them, and recognizing the blessings we receive from those nearest to us.  From my new desk, I join you in looking forward to a new year with one another and with our Lord.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

A Note From,
 Our Church Council President

Greetings and Happy New Year LOL Family,
I hope this note finds you well as we enter a new and promising year.  As we embark on a new year at church, and one where I'm sure we will get back into the building to Worship, I want to share some thanks and recognition.
There are many people that donate significant time to support LOL, and I likely risk missing many of you, but here it goes!  Since we went into virtual services Bill Reich has weekly performed the task of recording, editing and posting our services.  We all owe Bill our gratitude for donating significant time in helping us maintain our weekly worship.  Thanks Bill!  Craig Baechler volunteered numerous hours to lead our Property Ministries coordinating bids, hiring contractors, and recruiting volunteers to address a multitude of property maintenance issues.  Thank you Craig!  Carol Ebersberger volunteered her time as your Financial Secretary for the year, declining to take the stipend for that position.  Thank you Carol!  Similarly, Jim and Carolyn Cuviello have been doing an outstanding job with LOL Lifelines and declined the stipend too!  Thanks to you both.  Thank you to our wonderful staff that have done amazing things to continue our Ministries as we navigate through uncharted and unprecedented times during the pandemic.  I want to thank Council for your continued support of all our ministries during the past year.  It has been one for the books, and I'm looking forward to the opportunities to come in 2021!
Finally, I want to thank all of you, our members, who continue to support LOL in prayer, volunteering, and tithing.  Without all of you we would not exist to serve!
In closing, I want to mention that we will have our Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 31st at 10:30 AM via ZOOM.  It will be similar to our Call Meeting in August.  Also, once we have a proposed spending plan ready for review, we will schedule a separate meeting, prior to the Annual Meeting, to share and answer questions for the proposed spending plan.  This approach should make the Annual Meeting more efficient.  Details for both of these meetings will be sent to all in advance of the scheduled dates.
Peace,
Ed

A Note From Pastor:

We need your voice!  Before you think of all the reasons to say no to what I am about to ask - give yourself a moment to think of reasons to say yes.  Whatever knee-jerk reaction you have, slow it down to let yourself actually consider this:  Church Council.
Yes, I am asking you - YOU, reading this now - to consider being on the Church Council.  We believe that God has given us each gifts, yes?  Those gifts are 90% likely to be needed as we keep our congregation lively and loving.  I imagine you have gotten to the reasons to say no by now - we all have them - but take a moment and think of even one reason to say yes.  It's not all-or-nothing, and we aren't seeking perfect candidates.  Everyone has a heart, some discretionary time, and many gifts, and that's really what is needed!  Not a special 5% of folks should be on Council; most members would make great additions to Council.  Being on Council means being formed into an active leader, and you will be supported in that. And being on Council means making friends who serve alongside you.  Please let these words ruminate in your mind and heart, and if you are interested, ask a current Council member what it's like and how you could fit in.
        Thank you for reading this!
Pastor Wendolyn

A January 1st Update From Janell Reich

Bringing Christmas Joy To Our Friends At Cambridge Crossings:

On Wednesday December 23rd, LOL members presented a program of Christmas music, poems and verses via Zoom for the folks at Cambridge Crossing, Moorestown.   Ella Doel, Tom Wilfrid (Fred's son) and Activity Director Trish said it was well received.
Ella remarked, "Just want to tell you that you were perfect on the show. You looked lovely and did such a good job. The lighting and sound were what it should be . All the residents are grateful for the show. It filled us with the Christmas spirit and we thank you for that."
Many thanks to Sue Dreisbach, who organized it all, sang and played guitar, Sara King (and Max the dog) who read, and Josh and Dave Lamb who played trombone and guitar.  Wonderful job!
It is exciting that we are now able to support our friends at Cambridge Crossings in a new way.  We plan to once again provide a program each month.  The next one is planned for Friday, January 22nd.  If you would like to participate, please contact Janell Reich or Sue Dreisbach by email.  Links to their emails are at the end of the article.

Book Club:
Tuesday, January 19, 2021

On Tuesday, January 19th at 1 PM Book Club will meet via Zoom to discuss "The Lost Girls of Paris" by Pam Jenoff.  There are plenty of copies in the library.  This novel is set during the final years of World War II and immediately after the war, and tells a story inspired by the true-life experiences of women serving as agents in Britain's Special Operations Executive.
If you are interested in being a part of the group, please contact Janell so that she can provide you the ZOOM code for the session.  A link to her email is below.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021

On Tuesday, February 16th at 1 PM, we will discuss, "Love Is the Way:  Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times"  by Bishop Michael Curry.  There are only a couple of copies in the library, so you may want to put this on your Christmas wish list!
If you are interested in being a part of the group, please contact Janell so that she can provide you the ZOOM code for the session.  A link to her email is below.

Other Events In 2021:
Some plans for next year include a "Tea Time" (via ZOOM), a Game Day, and a Winter Walk.  Please feel free to suggest other activities to me by email (an email link is below).  All ideas are welcome!  Announcements of Adult Ministry events will be forthcoming in future LifeLines, so keep tuned in for them!

BOP food pantry is in need of canned soups (for the colder weather), cans of tuna or chicken, along with the regular items (Parmalot, cereal, pancake mix, syrup, etc.).  Our collection container is remains located outside the the LOL church kitchen entrance as well as the cart in the church entryway.

Thank you everyone for your continued support!

 We Continue Our Support Of
The CCC

Our regular collection is ongoing, and your support is greatly appreciated.  During the winter months, blankets and heavy clothing will be in need.  Hand operated can openers and canned food with pull tabs are especially welcomed.  Please use the blue container outside the kitchen doorway or the cart in the church entryway for your donations.
Thank you for your support!

Delivery In Progress:
2021 Church Contribution Envelopes

The delivery of 2021 Contribution Envelopes is in progress.  Boxes of envelopes that were not picked up at the church are being delivered to the front, side, or back door of your home.  The person delivering the envelopes will place them in a plastic bag and leave them without ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door, so be on the lookout for them.
The delivery to homes located in Chatsworth, Evesham/Marlton, Lumberton, Medford Lakes, Moorestown, Mt. Holly, Mt. Laurel, Shamong, Southampton, and Tabernacle have been completed.  Partially completed are the homes in Medford.  Thank you to our delivery team:  Carolyn and James Cuviello, Nancy Di Yenno, Kirsten and Harry Granfors, Joyce Harper, Lu and Ed Hourihan, Fran Jones, Penny Miller, Sandy O'Neal, and Barbara Wagner!
It will be difficult to reach homes in communities further away, if at all.  We will try our best.  Those envelopes will remain at the church and will be in your church mailbox.  As in the past, our "Members Living Out Of State" will not be mailed envelope boxes.
We ask for your patience and understanding of the logistical issues involved with accomplishing this task.
Help is still needed with the distribution of envelope boxes to Medford and towns that are more distant which are not listed above.  If you would be willing to help with the delivery, please contact Stewardship Team Leader, James Cuviello by email.  A link to his email is below.

Happy New Year!

One More Christmas Hymn:
This Christmas hymn is not as popular as some others, but is still familiar to most of us.  It is ELW #292, "Love Has Come."   This version is a choral arrangement by Lloyd Larson and sung by the Visitation Catholic Church Choir of Kansas City, MO.  It is the tune we know, but with a different mid-section.  Enjoy!

" ...in Him was life, and the life was the light of all people."
