We just celebrated our 400th Thanksgiving and are now in the fifth century of American Congregationalism.
As a lifelong Congregationalist from New England, I have seen lots of changes in worship and other aspects of church life over my 80 plus years. I am sure we will continue to evolve in ways we can’t imagine.
I like to think that Congregationalism’s adaptability makes it especially relevant in today’s world. We grow our faith through fellowship, gaining support from peers and clergy. Probing, questioning, debating, and toleration all are part of our heritage. As teaching religion, our first efforts were to establish colleges. The NACCC continues those traditions, our sacred legacy.
As we look ahead, we are grateful for the perseverance of our forbearers and the abiding resilience that characterizes our tradition. May we face 2022 with the hope and grace of our predecessors.
