Mary Magdalene Church

Happy New Year!

A New Combined Weekly Update

To help streamline communication, our Sunday Bulletin and Wednesday Newsletter will now be combined into one weekly email, sent every Thursday.

Important events and key dates will be featured in the first Thursday bulletin of each month. Weekly updates will continue to share timely reminders, ministry news, and opportunities to participate in our shared life together.

Thank you for staying connected and supporting our ministries!

Mary Magdalene Church is an inclusive church in the Catholic tradition where people from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to the Lord’s table. We strive to live the values that Jesus taught, to honor and respect each individual and to share the joy of God’s unconditional love in our community and beyond.

Greetings!

Thank you to all who helped make Christmas at Mary Magdalene such a beautiful experience. To all who decorated the church, prepared the altar, read the scriptures, gave communion, steered the livestream, played music or sang hymns (special shout-out to music director Kathy English, who coordinated music repertoire and musicians for all three services), ushered, cleared the sidewalks of snow, or simply attended to share in this holy time of welcoming the Light into the world, thank you — for the beauty of your faith and the depth of your love for one another.

Thank you to everybody as well for your incredible generosity. The more than $2,000 you shared will go directly to the Pastor’s Emergency Fund to serve the needs of members and neighbors experiencing hunger, housing or financial crises, and similar urgent needs. Your care for the most vulnerable touches my heart. I am grateful for you.

Please see this bulletin for a save-the-date list of upcoming January events here at church, including an Intro to Mary Magdalene Church session following Mass on January 11th. If you’re new to the parish, grab a cup of coffee in Fellowship Hall and then come on up to the first floor meeting room at 11:20 for a 45 minute crash course on the ministries, history, and denominational connections of MMC. Remote parishioners are welcome to join us via this Zoom link (Passcode: 930146 Meeting ID: 826 0107 5435). Hope to see you there!

May the love of God cradle you this Christmas season.

Yours in faith,

—Celie

Help for the Hauck Family

Many of you have been praying with us for the Hauck family in recent weeks. As some of you know, the Haucks, (Nina Mottern’s daughter, son‑in‑law, and their four children) lost their home to a devastating fire in November.

In the midst of this heartbreaking loss, their friends have organized a fundraiser to help with immediate needs and the many incidentals that come with starting over. This support will help carry them as they begin the long process of rebuilding their lives.

So many of you have reached out asking how you can help. If you feel led to support this family during such a difficult season, please consider contributing to the fundraiser. Your generosity, prayers, and compassion mean more than you know.

Money Ball!

This fundraising event is open to all parishioners and the public! Balls/numbers are available for purchase now! The proceeds will benefit Mary Magdalene Church and our InReach/OutReach ministries. Numbers will be sold after Mass or by contacting Tammy Drolette *Please note that your first number choice may not be available, so we ask that you pick your top 3 choices. Cash or check payable to Mary Magdalene Church accepted. Contact Tammy to purchase a ball if you are not able to do so in person. Click here for the flyer.

If anyone has any children/teen books that they would like to donate to our Youth library, we would appreciate it. Our youth would love to have their own library, and we have several shelves set aside for this purpose. Please leave any books in the box in Sue’s office and we will make sure it gets to the correct shelves. Thank you in advance!

If you are at least 73 years old and take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA each year, consider donating some of those funds as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to Mary Magdalene Church and enjoy some tax savings at the same time!

We now have a Can Shack located in our parking lot where you can return your NYS redeemable containers. Just bag your bottles and cans in a regular kitchen garbage bag, making sure they are empty and clean, and place them in the secure opening whenever you are here! Every bag makes a difference!
