Internet Challenges

Throughout the last week, TCGIS has been experiencing significant network difficulties and it has led to disruptions in instruction, workflow and communication. Families, please know that we are working hard with our provider to pinpoint and fix the problem and that we fully recognize teacher, student and family frustration with the situation. We apologize for any communications that have been missed during this time and appreciate staff, student and family patience with the situation.
Sibling Applications Due February 7

We are currently accepting sibling applications for the 2018-19 school year! If you have a child that will be entering Kindergarten next year, please fill out this application form and return it to the school office at your earliest convenience. The application deadline is February 7, 2018, at 4:00pm. We cannot guarantee placement for any students whose applications are received after this date. 
Order Window for School Lunches/Milk, Bus Seat and Kinderclub will open Friday, January 12!

Please log on to our online store website Boonli starting Friday, 1/12, to place your child(ren)'s Bus, Kinderclub and School Lunch/Milk order for FebruaryAll orders must be submitted by midnight on Monday, January 22.
Our Goal for Next Year: 30 Host Families!

Now is the time to apply to become a host family for the next school year. Options are available for short-term hosting, Fall semester, Spring semester or for full-year arrangements. Hosting a TCGIS intern from Germany, Austria or Switzerland can be a valuable experience for your family and expand the horizons of your children forever! So far we have 6  host families!

Summer Camp

In the previous years our language Sommerca mps have been offered during the last three weeks of July. We are considering to move the three weeks period time frame into August this summer and would love to get feedback from you about this option.

Transition to High School Parent Panel Night
Sixth, Seventh & Eighth Grade Parents - January 17 6:30-8:30pm

panel of graduated families will share their experience in transitioning from TCGIS to high school. Several High Schools are represented at this PTO sponsored evening, including; Mounds View, Southwest, South, Upper Mississippi Academy, Central and Johnson.  Please RSVP here. 

On February 1, TCGIS will host an evening with Central High School's Principal, German Teacher and Math Teacher. More info to come!
2nd Kinder Karneval at the Clubhaus!

Mark your calendars for January 28, 2018 from 2pm - 5pm! There will be a Kinder Karneval at The Klub Haus on Rice Street. Admission to the Kinder Karneval is free, families are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes and will have the opportunity to play a variety of games for all ages.

Puzzlers Needed 

Are you a puzzler? Do you enjoy creative word smithing? Do you have an acronym for remembering everything? Or do people laugh at your puns? Then we have a competition for you!

Currently our school has three behavior expectations: Sicherheit (Safety), Verantwortung (Responsibility), Respekt (Respect). We want you to come up with a catchphrase using each first letter of our 3 behavior expectations: S, V, R. Please submit your catchphrase to  [email protected] by  February 4. The winner will be announced at the Carnival of Cultures on  February 22nd. The winner will receive a $25 gift card for Amazon.

African Drum Group Performance

On Wednesday, January 17, the Macalester Music Ensemble under the direction of Sowah Mensah will bring an African Drum Group and guest dancer from Ghana to TCGIS to perform for our students grades 4-8.  
Drama Performances for 7th and 8th Grade

All parents of 7th and 8th grade Drama students are invited to attend our performance during Specialist time on Tuesday, January 23  from 10:40 am - 12:25 pm in Room 100.

The program will include 3 poems by Goethe and their interpretations by the Drama students: Erlkönig, Heidenröslein, Gefunden. Also, students will perform their skits on topics they chose: Immigration, Native American Issues, Climate Change, Extinction of Animals, Gender Equality, and more.

Many fundraising opportunities and grade level meet ups are available this month.  Please see   PTO January Newsletter f or info and follow us on  Facebook.

Thanks to all the parents that have joined the conversation at the PTO meetings this year.  Teacher retention & moral is a HOT topic. This year the PTO has been looking at ways to better support the school working environment.  PTO has taken two actions so far:
1) Added a lunch EVERY month for staff 
2) Executive Director Ted Anderson has been given a $1,000 discretionary fund to use for staff encouragement
But all action is dependent on parent involvement! Hope to see you soon at one of our meetings.

SCHNUPPERKURS - Indroduction to German
Are you interested in learning German, but you are not sure what to expect? Join us for a 2-hour Introduction to German. The course will be taught by one of native language instructors.
