Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,
The nationwide celebration of Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 29. We will be reinstituting our annual St. Rita Family Mass at 11:30 on that Sunday. I would like to invite all our school families to join us as we celebrate our school, its students, and their families. Sr. Anne is looking for some student lectors (Grs. 6-8) and altar servers for the Mass. Please contact her if your child is interested in assisting. Students are asked to wear their school uniforms to Mass to show their school pride and receive a free dress down day coupon from Fr. Tiano. Please see Mrs. Tiezzi or Mrs. Robinson at Mass to receive your coupon. A full list of CSW activities will be sent home in next week’s newsletter.
Registration for new students for the upcoming 2023-2024 school is currently open to our school families. If you have another child you would like to have join our school community for next year, please contact Mrs. Bruno, our admissions director, for the registration information. Re-enrollment for current students will not take place until early March.
January 20 is the midpoint of the second marking period. A progress report will be mailed to parents of students in grades 4-8 if your child has any grades below a C- (70%). Just a reminder that parents have the ability to receive automatic updates of their child’s progress simply by checking the appropriate box on their EduConnect account. This is only available to parents with students in grades 4-8.
Just a reminder that this Friday, January 13, is an early dismissal day and there is NO aftercare. School is closed on Monday, January 16, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Now, most especially, let us take some time over the holiday to honor the legacy of Dr. King by talking with your children and sharing ways to live out Dr. King’s legacy - nonviolent protest. In 1959 during his visit to India, Dr. King stated, “Today we no longer have a choice between violence and nonviolence: it is either nonviolence or nonexistence.” His legacy goes hand in hand with our Catholic social teachings - a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society.
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta once stated “the world is changed by your example, not your opinion”. Spend the next week honoring the legacy of both Dr. King and St. Mother Teresa by “doing small things in a great way”. Thank you for entrusting your child/children to our care. Be safe and stay well.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
