First Methodist Church
Prayer For the Week of January 14, 2024

“Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.”
--Colossians 3: 1

Jesus, the Lamb of God,

You are the One who sits on the throne. You are the One who is worthy to take the scroll and to open its seal. You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power. You are the One whose blood purchased persons from every tribe and language and people and nation for God. [See: Revelation 4 & 5.] You are God’s servant who acted wisely, and was raised and lifted up and highly exalted [Isaiah 52: 13].

We desire to honor you first by believing in you, then out of gratitude serving you with all that we are. Lord, you deserve our best. You deserve respect and awe. You are worthy. Lord, what have I constructed as an idol in my life? Please reveal to me how I am straying from your path and help me to return to the way you want me to go. You direct us to “go and make disciples of all nations” [See: Matthew 28: 19]. Others’ responses are not dependent on us, but on you, Spirit, as you work in those who will come to believe. May we be faithful.

LORD Almighty, you are with us; God of Jacob, you are our fortress [Psalm 46: 11]. LORD Most High, you are awesome-the great King over all the earth. We sing praises to you, praises to our King [Psalm 47: 2, 6]. May we bring a sacrifice of praise before you. May you be glorified in our praises. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, we pray. AMEN.

Please pray this week for: The Rev. Michael Rutenber, Pastor of Visitation, & David Dorn, Endowment Chair.
