Assembly, Parking & Floater Volunteers: Additional volunteer slots have been added to support parking, set-up and take-down of the all school assembly, and provide extra hands to support classes as needed. Sign-up here.

FBLA Judges Needed

ICS Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA] is looking for volunteers to judge our regional competition. The competition is at North Creek High School on Saturday, February 3. Judges are needed for two sessions - 7:30 AM to noon and 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No experience is necessary to judge, but you will be asked to select some areas where you feel more comfortable. These events are not possible without the generous donation of your time. You can volunteer by submitting this form.

Reflections 2023-24 Council Winners

We are excited to share that there are 5 winning entries from ICS at the LWSD Council level of the competition. These 5 students will be moving to the State level of the Competition. Congratulations!!

Happy New Year from the ICS Library!

We are diving into designing and printing models in the library using the ICS MakerBot! With the help of ICS parent Ilya Berezhnyuk, who repaired the 3D printer for us, students are now able to try out this new addition to our makerspace. Students use the 3D Builder program already installed on their computers to create printable models. Some ICS students already have experience with 3D design and 3D printers, so it’s been fun to let them teach their peers and me.

Thanks again to Mr. Berezhnyuk and to all the families who have supported our library this year! Thank you also for raising amazing readers - it is a privilege to be their librarian!

FROM DEI COMMITTEE

January - Chinese American/Americans of Chinese Descent History Month

January 2024 marks the first ever Chinese American/Americans of Chinese Descent History Month in Washington State. Signed by Governor Jay Inslee in May 2023, the bill is the first of its kind in the country to honor Chinese Americans. According to Senate Bill 5000, the new law states that "January of each year will be designated as a time for people of this state to commemorate the contributions of Chinese Americans and Americans of Chinese descent to the history and heritage of Washington state." Public schools are also encouraged to "designate time in January for appropriate activities in commemoration of the lives, history, achievements, and contributions of Chinese Americans and Americans of Chinese descent." Washington will be the only state with a month-long recognition of its Chinese community and its contribution to the development of Washington’s rich heritage.

Celebrate World Religion Day

World Religion Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in January every year, and is a reminder of the need for harmony and understanding between religions and faith systems. On this day, communities of different faiths have the opportunity to get together and listen to each other, as well as celebrate the differences and commonalities that the delicate intermingling of culture and religion brings. There are approximately 4,200 religions around the world. While many people live their lives without religion, faith in a higher being or power works for the majority of people. Whatever the reasons, we are all for the idea of people being unified despite differences, and celebrating them.
