From The Pastor's Desk...

Greetings in the name of our Lord!

I greet you with a new status this week - as having received dose 1 of the Pfizer vaccine!  An allotment was made for local clergy to receive the vaccine, recognizing that we are "front line workers" in a different but essential sense.
What does this mean for our congregation?  First, the immunity is only really solid after the second dose.  So after February 10th, I will start being able to do home visits on a larger scale.  I am truly excited about this, so please fill my schedule up with visiting you!  You can contact me by email (pastor@lordlife.us) and suggest a few times that could work for you - or by phone.  The flexibility of my schedule means that weekends and evenings certainly work for visits.  I am thrilled to get to know many more of you - so don't hold back.  (I am starting to feel like a TV commercial - but wait, there's more... call now, operators are standing by...)
You will see that I will continue to wear my mask.  The vaccine is not 100%, and the virus can survive outside of the bloodstream; in addition, it is just good practice for me to live as an example, wearing my mask and acting as I hope others also will.  But this development gives me a greater ability to serve, for which I say, "Thanks be to God."
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

Congregational Meeting

And
Spending Plan
Question And Answer Session
Saturday, January 30, 2021, 7:00 PM

The Lord Of Life Annual January Congregational Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 31st at 10:30 AM.  On the day prior, Saturday, January 30th at 7:00 PM, an optional question and answer session, LIMITED TO and ONLY about the spending plan, will be held to better prepare you for the Sunday meeting.  Both meetings will be virtual using ZOOM. The primary agenda items for the Sunday Annual Congregational Meeting are approving the 2021 Spending Plan and the election of Church Council members. The Sunday Congregational Meeting will be conducted in a fashion similar to the Pastoral Call meeting that was held in August.
It is most important that as many confirmed congregation members as possible attend the Sunday Annual Congregational Meeting since a quorum of almost 100 confirmed congregation members is required.  All confirmed congregation members are encouraged to attend.
In the section below, information is provided as to how to join the meetings as well as other general meeting/ZOOM information.  The "Connect To The..." links will directly join you to the ZOOM meetings.

Lord Of Life:
Making A Difference

During the last month or so, Lord Of Life has initiated several outreach projects.  Our Reverse Advent Challenge and Pocket Ministries were well received and have brought needed items to those less fortunate.  Along with this, there will be additional youth service projects during the latter part of January and outreach to the residents of assisted living and nursing homes.
********
Reverse Advent Challenge:

On Saturday, January 9th, a delivery of the donations was made to Bridge Of Peace.  Betty Mastrillo, Penny Miller, Pastor, and her two sons, Caedmon and Dante, loaded up two cars, a mini-van and an SUV and delivered food and the Advent baskets to BOP.  Along with donations from our church members, some of the food was given to us by the St. Vincent De Paul's pantry at Holy Eucharist.  Thank you to all who contributed!

********
Pocket Ministries:

Pocket Ministries are a way that church members can connect with one another.  Some have led to getting involved with helping those less fortunate.  Many bags of food items were collected by our youth for the Seneca Food Pantry and Bridge Of Peace.  Photos below show our donations being prepared for delivery to BOP on January 9th.  Thank you to all for your donations!

Letters To:
Church Members Residing In
Assisted Living And Nursing Homes

Church member Nancy DeAngelis reached out to Pastor Wendolyn asking if the church had any community service projects in which she and husband Libero could participate with their grandchildren.  Pastor suggested that they write cards to church members who reside in assisted living communities and nursing homes.  Janell Reich obtained the names and addresses.  The grandchildren:  Gianna DeAngelis, Rocco DeAngelis, Massimo DeCristofaro, and Luca DeCristofaro, all who are LOL youth, then wrote letters, enclosed photos, and sent them.  Great job DeAngelis and DeCristofaro families!

Bible, Faith, And Fellowship (BFF)
BFF will continue online via Google Classroom.  We are using "Journey Through The Wilderness:  An Exodus Experience."  Sessions will be on Sundays during January and February.  If you need the code to access the event, please email Breanne.  A link to her email is at the end of this article.

A Note From Pastor:

We need your voice!  Before you think of all the reasons to say no to what I am about to ask - give yourself a moment to think of reasons to say yes.  Whatever knee-jerk reaction you have, slow it down to let yourself actually consider this:  Church Council.
Yes, I am asking you - YOU, reading this now - to consider being on the Church Council.  We believe that God has given us each gifts, yes?  Those gifts are 90% likely to be needed as we keep our congregation lively and loving.  I imagine you have gotten to the reasons to say no by now - we all have them - but take a moment and think of even one reason to say yes.  It's not all-or-nothing, and we aren't seeking perfect candidates.  Everyone has a heart, some discretionary time, and many gifts, and that's really what is needed!  Not a special 5% of folks should be on Council; most members would make great additions to Council.  Being on Council means being formed into an active leader, and you will be supported in that. And being on Council means making friends who serve alongside you.  Please let these words ruminate in your mind and heart, and if you are interested, ask a current Council member what it's like and how you could fit in.
        Thank you for reading this!
Pastor Wendolyn

Now Accepting Your Applications!

We are seeking folks to be trained on using the sound and video systems.  We can train ages 15-90, and those numbers are negotiable!  Please email Bill Reich or call the church office to sign up.

A January 15th Update From Janell Reich

Parking Lot Hymn Sing
Today, Friday, January 15th
2:00 PM

The temperature should be in the 50's so we picked this day to have another sing-a-long event.  Join us from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the church parking lot for a hymn sing.  Sue Dreisbach will lead our group with hymns from Epiphany and others that folks request.  While remaining in our cars, the audio will be transmitted through your car radio on FM 88.7.  See you then!

ZOOM Program For Our Friends At Cambridge Crossings:

It is exciting that we are now able to support our friends at Cambridge Crossings through a monthly Zoom program of music, prayers, verses and poems.  The next one is planned for Friday, January 22nd from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.  If you would like to participate, please contact Janell Reich or Sue Dreisbach by email.  Links to their emails are at the end of the article.

Book Club:
Tuesday, January 19, 2021

On Tuesday, January 19th at 1:00 PM, Book Club will meet via Zoom to discuss "The Lost Girls of Paris" by Pam Jenoff.  There are plenty of copies in the library.  This novel is set during the final years of World War II and immediately after the war, and tells a story inspired by the true-life experiences of women serving as agents in Britain's Special Operations Executive.
If you are interested in being a part of the group, please contact Janell so that she can provide you the ZOOM code for the session.  A link to her email is below.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021

On Tuesday, February 16th at 1 PM, we will discuss, "Love Is the Way:  Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times"  by Bishop Michael Curry.  There are only a couple of copies in the library, so you may want to look into purchasing it.
If you are interested in being a part of the group, please contact Janell so that she can provide you the ZOOM code for the session.  A link to her email is below.

Car Caroling Held:
On January 2nd, the nice weather permitted our postponed Car Caroling to be held.  13 cars and approximately 20 people attended!  Thanks to Sue Dreisbach for leading us in song and reading reflections.  And also thanks to Pastor Wendolyn for praying with us, Bill Reich providing tech support, and to Jim Cuviello for jumping in to clean up.

Other Events In 2021:
Some plans for this year include a "Tea Time" (via ZOOM), a Game Day, and a Winter Walk.  Please feel free to suggest other activities to me by email (an email link is below).  All ideas are welcome!  Announcements of Adult Ministry events will be forthcoming in future LifeLines, so keep tuned in for them!

Quilt Ministry News:
A Message From Gloria Brosious

Happy New Year to all:
A quick note to keep you up to date.  The Baechlers, through Thrivent, procured a $250 gift card.  That card purchased us 2 rolls of batting and 3 flat twin sheets from Walmart.  Thank you Linda and Craig!  We are fortunate to have Thrivent supporting us in our Quilt Ministry as well as all of you who work on our quilts.  One roll of batting has been cut and is stored in the closet.  Thanks to Carol Flood, Carolyn Cuviello, and Janell Reich, fabric has been cut and made into kits.  We are ready to work on the next collection of quilts.  Presently there are 5 quilts on the shelf already - that's a great start!
Thrivent asks us, when we request a gift card, how many people are working in our Ministry.  We suggest a number, but I'm sure that we have others who are not on my e-mail list who contribute.  If you know of someone whose name is not on our list, I would gladly add them to our list to keep them up to date.  A link to my email is at the end of this article.

A Helpful Hint:
Walmart has twin flat sheets back in stock - they are $6.84.  I find it so easy to use them, but I did finish some backings, and they are also on the shelf in the closet.  A trick I have found with Walmart sheets is the width does not need to be cut, but I cut 10" off the length at the top border.  While watching TV, I remove the stitching from the cutoff, and, when I get enough in the basket, I sew them all together for another backing.

A Prayer:
This prayer was sent to us by Thrivent For Our Quilting Action Team:

Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you for giving us gifts and talents to use in service and share our love for others.  Place in our hearts a desire to live faithfully and do the things you have prepared in advance for us to do.  Today we pray that you would bless the work of our hands.  May we be good stewards of your blessings and may many lives and hearts be impacted today. May all honor and glory be yours.
        Amen
********
Again thank you for all you do! There are 654 families who will be kept warm and will be thankful for their gift from LOL Quilt Ministry.  Thanks be to God!
Gloria

UPDATE FROM HAITI
January, 2021
Penny Miller Sewing Academy

Things are going well at the Sewing Academy in Haiti, despite the delay of the new class.  Last year's class had their graduation in March 2020.  Family and friends attended to celebrate with the Class of 2020.
Twelve new students were chosen in March 2020, but due to Covid restrictions, classes did not begin until August 2020.  Four students dropped out due to Covid, leaving eight students for this school year.  They will have classes twice a week until their graduation in August of 2021.
We are currently looking for a new building to hold classes. The owner of the current building needs the house for his family.  He will allow us to finish the current school year.
I have been in touch with Libertin.  He and Madame Francois have begun to visit sites that would be suitable for our school.  Please keep them in prayer as they search for a new location to house Penny Miller's Sewing Academy.
Thank you all for your continued support!
God's Peace,
Penny

(Libertin is the Academy Administrator.  He oversees equipment, materials, enrollment, etc.  Madame Francois is the sewing instructor.  She is a former kindergarten teacher who is enjoying her current role with the Academy very much!)

A Chance To Go To The Superbowl In 2022!

While the sports landscape looks different this year, the need for blood never stops, so the American Red Cross and the NFL are teaming up again with a giant prize package.
When donors come to give blood by Jan. 31, they will be automatically entered for a chance to win a Super Bowl LVI getaway to sunny Los Angeles for them and a guest!
The package will include two tickets to Super Bowl LVI, entry to the official NFL Tailgate, tickets to Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare to Los Angeles, three-night hotel accommodations (Feb. 4 to Feb. 7, 2022), plus a $500 gift card for expenses. The Red Cross and NFL won't flag this delay of game, as the winner will have the opportunity to experience Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, the first Super Bowl in SoFi Stadium.

********
Regarding COVID-19 Vaccinations:

The Red Cross is following FDA blood donation eligibility guidance for those who receive a COVID-19 vaccination, and deferral times may vary depending on the type of vaccine an individual receives.  There is no deferral time if you receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Continuing Your Contributions

Your continuing financial support is essential to maintain the Ministries of Lord Of Life. Your envelopes can be mailed to the church (1 Winchester Court, Tabernacle, NJ 08088) and Simply Giving remains in place.
Offerings can also be made via a secure website and cell phone app. More information about these ways to contribute can be found on the church's website.  The link is below.
Despite these troubling COVID-19 times, the work of the church is going on. Pastor Wendolyn and our staff are actively engaged, and the need to pay bills and the mortgage continue. Prayerfully consider continuing with your regular contributions.
