Our St. John youth will help lead worship and bring the message this Sunday. Worship services are at 8:00, 9:15 and 11:30 a.m., with the later two services livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

Class for newcomers

Are you new or new-ish to St. John and would like to learn more about Methodism and our church? Join Pastor Andy at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 and 28 in Room 163 for a Welcome Point class. All are welcome.

Taco Salad - it's what's for dinner

Wednesday Night Supper is back this week! Join us for Taco Salad and Brownie Special, followed by all regular Wednesday night programming, including Biblemania and Youth Group.

Call for quilts

We love to display the artistry of our quilters. Do you have a quilt that we can borrow to hang on our walls? Bring it by the church office with your name, contact info and any information about the quilt that you'd like to share.

Take a lay ministry course

The Rev. Andy Bartel invites you to join a class he leads for a UMC certified leadership program. There are three tracks of certification available – Certified Lay Servant, Certified Lay Speaker and Certified Lay Minister. All three tracks begin with the BASIC course and have follow-up advance coursework. Many of the advanced classes can be taken online through www.beadisciple.com.

He will be offering the BASIC course on Sunday afternoons Feb. 11-March 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. John UMC. The class is limited to 12 participants and can be attended in-person or via Zoom. Sign up here.

Cameroon mission trip

The Cameroon Mission team is planning a trip at the end of May to support partners in Cameroon with local health, education and food security priorities. This will be the mission's seventh trip over a 30-year relationship with project partners in the coastal village of Kribi, Cameroon. Travelers will contribute to development projects and learn from the local culture. For more information, contact Cathie Clements at cathieclements@yahoo.com.

MFP is Thursday

St. John's monthly Mobile Food Pantry is this Thursday, Jan. 18,, from 5 to 6 p.m. Anybody who needs some help with groceries is welcome. If you are interested in volunteering, sign up here.

Movie + lunch = fun day

The next Classic Film and Discussion hosted by Walt Hays is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18. He will show "On the Waterfront" in the sanctuary, with discussion afterward in Room 160. The film is followed by the 49+ Lunch at noon in the Fellowship Hall. Come to one or both events. Find details on this month's movie and upcoming ones here.

Parenting Group

Parents of infants and teenagers and all ages in between are invited to the Wednesday night Parenting Group at 6:20 p.m. At this week's meeting on Jan. 17, leaders will ask attendees what their interests are and what they'd like to focus on. It's a great time to join! Childcare is available.

Calling all nurses

Are you a nurse or healthcare professional? St. John has an RN who has volunteered to create and organize a list of nurses and other healthcare professionals in our community. Please consider filling out this short form here. This is *not* a commitment to volunteer, but there is an opportunity to list any volunteer interests you might have!

Carrie Gruhn is our new Worship Volunteer Coordinator, and she needs your help! Welcoming faces are needed every Sunday at the 9:15 and 11:30 services. Sign up here to be a greeter. NHPS early registration

Early registration at New Horizons Preschool has begun! Currently enrolled families and families who attend St. John UMC are invited to register at this time. Registration opens to alumni families on Jan. 16 and to the greater Anchorage community on Jan. 22. If you are planning on having your child attend New Horizons Preschool for the 2024 - 2025 school year you should register as soon as possible. Registration is occurring completely online through our website newhorizonspreschool.org .

Gail and Bill in concert

Gail Skurla and Bill Weinfurter will perform at St. John at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. They will play an eclectic set of acoustic pop, folk and country music from the decades. Admission is free-will donation.
