HSC Client Connected with Friend in Boise

Clark is a 20-year-old male who came to the Brian Garcia Welcome Center at the Key Campus for assistance. He was experiencing homelessness for over a year. Clark spent the majority of that time living outdoors and at times under bridges. He was admitted on multiple occasions to both medical and mental health hospitals and was recently diagnosed with several mental health conditions. After receiving medical assistance he started to feel much better and was in his words, “ready to improve his life.”

Keys to Change Staff talked with Clark about his friends and family. Ultimately a close friend in Idaho was contacted and stated that he was willing to have Clark come live with him. Keys to Change Staff purchased a bus ticket for travel to Boise, and Clark arrived safely at his destination. His plan now is to look for work in order to contribute financially to his new home. He will also engage with local mental health agencies.

Keys to Change refers to this type of assistance as “diversion.” Diversion is one key to ending homelessness.

Calling for Project Connect Volunteers

The next Project Connect event to bring services for people at risk of and experiencing homelessness at locations across the Valley will be February 22 at the Salvation Army Northwest Valley Corps, 17420 Avenue of the Arts, Surprise 85378.

Volunteers are needed from 8 am to 3 pm for a variety of roles. Registration is online at www.hscforms.com. Email [email protected] or call 623-826-2048 with any questions!

Our Next Campus Tour is February 7

Want to see firsthand what happens at Key Campus? On the first Wednesday of every month we host a tour at 9:00 am. Spend an hour with us visiting the 13 acres and eight buildings, learning about the 15 partner organizations working collaboratively to serve people experiencing homelessness.
