Changes to Fundraisers
During a recent Minnesota Department of Education review, we were informed of small but important changes we need to make to comply with the USDA Smart Snacks Standards.
Smart Snacks Standards are put forth by the federal government, and are required for all foods and beverages sold outside of the National School Lunch Program.
To comply with the Smart Snacks Standards, TCGIS Administration has made the decision to implement the following protocol for fundraising immediately:
- The Office must be informed of all on-site fundraisers at least two weeks in advance via the Event Request Form. Once your event request is reviewed, an Office staff member will be in touch to discuss guidelines, instructions, and potential set-up requirements.
- Food and/or beverage sales may only take place after 3:45pm on school days, or any time during non-school days (e.g.: parent-teacher conference days).
- Upon approval, non-food fundraisers are still able to begin immediately after dismissal at 3:15pm. Please consider alternative fundraising ideas such as: selling seasonal arts & crafts, coupons for services (yardwork, car washing, etc.), or pledging donations for physical activity (running, jump roping, dancing, etc.).
If you have questions about the new fundraising protocol, please contact Maja Reyes at
mreyes@tcgis.org

Grades 6-8 will be having their school History Day competition on March 1st. They have been working on these projects since October and we need judges to help make the big school competition happen.

Puzzlers Needed
Are you a puzzler? Do you enjoy creative word smithing? Do you have an acronym for remembering everything? Or do people laugh at your puns? Then we have a competition for you!
Currently our school has three behavior expectations:
Sicherheit (Safety),
Verantwortung (Responsibility),
Respekt (Respect). We want you to come up with a catchphrase using each first letter of our 3 behavior expectations: S, V, R. Please submit your catchphrase to
pbis@tcgis.org by
February 4. The winner will be announced at the Carnival of Cultures on
February 22nd. The winner will receive a $25 gift card for Amazon.
The example below may bring some inspiration! This example is from Wyoming

Books Sponsored from the ZfA!
This past week TCGIS received around 170 books sponsored from the ZfA or the Zentrale für Auslandsschulwesen. The books were chosen from the German teachers last year and will help students across all grade levels! We are very happy and thankful for another generosity from the ZfA which supports our students among others through 2 teachers at TCGIS (Julia Brueske and Beate Simon) and these books.
