Cascade Avenue Renovations Set For Spring
UWRF and the City of River Falls have partnered in one of the largest local roadway projects in River Falls as renovations begin on Cascade Avenue this spring.
During phase 1 of the construction, set to begin in April, Cascade Avenue will be closed from Spruce Street through 6th Street (in reference to UWRF, from May Hall to Rodli Hall). Phase 1 includes adding two roundabouts: at the intersection of Cascade and 6th Street and at Cascade and 2nd Street.
The estimated cost of phase 1 of the project is more than $5.5 million.

UWRF Alumni Commit $400,000 to Falcon Scholars "Albrecht Challenge"
UWRF alumni Arlin ('58) and Marilyn ('56) Albrecht of Red Wing, Minn., know the importance of scholarship support. They have issued a challenge to fellow alumni and friends to provide more scholarships for students at UW-River Falls.
Through the Albrecht Challenge, gifts of $1,000 or more to the newly established Falcon Scholars program will be matched by the Albrechts. Funding the initial four years of the Falcon Scholars program will require $800,000 in charitable gifts, and the Albrechts are challenging others to donate to the Falcon Scholars program by pledging $400,000 - or half of the amount necessary.
"We truly understand the importance of scholarships and want to do what we can to promote the university's mission of providing a high-value education to deserving students," said Mr. Albrecht, who was named UWRF Distinguished Alumnus in 2010.
Mrs. Albrecht added, "As the recipient of the university's first ever scholarship in 1954 the opportunity to encourage others to support a new signature scholarship program at my alma mater is doubly sweet. The university has enriched our lives and it is our pleasure to create new opportunities for future Falcons."

UWRF Honors Outstanding Service Award Recipients
Each year UWRF honors individuals, companies, or governmental bodies that have made significant, sustained and lasting contributions to the mission of the university with the Outstanding Service Award. This year four deserving honorees--one company and three individuals--are recipients of the award, first established by the UW-River Falls Faculty Senate in 1983: Ag Star Financial Services, Wanda Brown, Phyllis Goldin, and Trudy Popenhagen.
More information on the recipients, who were honored at fall commencement on Dec. 18, can be found at UWRF News Release.

CBE Maintains Prestigious AACSB Accreditation
UWRF has maintained its business accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees in business and accounting.
Only 643 schools of business, or less than five percent worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education.
The UWRF achievement will be recognized in April at the 2012 AACSB International Conference and Annual Meeting held in San Diego, Calif.

UWRF Students Get a "Buzz" Out of Learning Biology
Students in the UWRF Biology 150 course were decked out recently in their bee suits listening to Jerome Rodewald discuss honeybee management at his local apiary.
UW-River Falls professors Kim Mogen, Karen Klyczek, and Brad Mogen are collaborating with Marla Spivak, a University of Minnesota professor of entomology who recently received a McArthur Genius Award for her work on honeybees, to help shed light on our nation's diminishing honeybee populations by bringing research into the classroom.
As well as becoming familiar with bee anatomy, physiology, management and ecology, UWRF students are performing authentic scientific research.
