January 2015
Dear Daniels Customer

Congratulations you've made it to the start of a great new year. We hope that it is filled with joy, laughter, surprise, good health and happiness.

We were thinking about the promise of a new year and how the phrase, "everything old is new again," (hence forth: EOINA) is so apropos of the beginning of a new year. So we thought we'd feature old ideas - that have garnered new traction, new importance as we enter 2015.

We hope you enjoy this issue of...This Just In.

Needed: A small...car?

The world is always looking for that next great people mover. Japan gave us an idea in 1955...and India...in 2014.

Well, not really. It's a covered...motor scooter. But it's cool.

1955 Fuji Cabin

The Fuji Cabin was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1955, intended as a fully enclosed motor scooter. Its sleek aerodynamic monocoque body was constructed of polyester, a bold use of this material at the time.

Very well engineered by Ryuichi Tomiya, a director of Suminoe Manufacturing which also produced the Flying Feather microcar and bodies for Nissan, the Fuji Cabin featured rubber suspension, staggered seating, a cooling duct down the center of the car, and beetle-wing motor lids.

The tiny, but well engineered Gasuden motor featured a reverse gear. Competition was stiff in the Japanese motorcycle market at this time and the price was somewhat steep. This, combined with poor marketing and inexpert handling of the FRP material, contributed to poor sales.

And this is the Peel p50 - the world's smallest car. It's so small, we thought we'd show you two of them!

Q1

ideas

who is this energy genius

His ideas were revolutionary, electric even. He lived his life in a series of hotels and today - and we think for some time to come - his name will be found on American roads.

Hot Tub Anyone?

While Hot Tub Time Machine isn't particularly old (2010) there is a new one in the works so it qualifies as "eoina.

So perhaps this month's dinner and a movie should be a visit to the multiplex and dinner at...Luce in Middletown.

Why?

Well, if you're going low-brow on the movie, you might want to step up to a Trip Advisor top 5 restaurant.

Or you could stick to the "chill" route and find the perfect meal at O'Rourke's Diner.

Either way, we're sure the movie won't be the highlight of the evening.

Q
Super Duper Challenge

There's a "big game" coming. You might call it a "super" game but you shouldn't call it a Super Bo-l because the NFL doesn't like that sort of thing. But it is coming. Feb. 1st. and we'd like to know who you think is going to win.

Five Ways To

 Stay Warm This Winter

Open the blinds on the sunny side of the house - close them on the other side

In the winter, do this in the morning. Open all of the blinds and curtains on the east-facing side of the house and make sure everything is closed on the west side (usually done the night before). If you're home at noon switch the two. Then, after dinner close everything on the west side of the house. This goes a long way towards maximizing the benefits of direct sunlight and minimizing the heat lost to windows not facing the sun.

Cook Something!

Cooking is a great way to warm up the air in your home, and it provides you with something warm to eat as well. Adding the calories from food, you're now warming yourself in three ways with one act.

Install a programmable Thermostat programable thermostats installed in CT

Does your home's heating and cooling only go up, down, or off? Installing a programmable thermostat can save you a lot of cash and frustration. Programmable thermostats have some geek-friendly controls and options these days, and are well worth the hassle. Our best advice: Secure the wires before you pull the old thermostat away-you do not want to have to fish around for them, or run new leads.

Seal Leaks

There's still time to plug, seal, and caulk. Caulk both the inside and outside of your windows. Outside, focus on the sealing around all the edges of the sills with a water-resistant product. Inside, use a temporary silicone caulk around all moving parts of the window. In the spring, when it's time to open everything up, the silicone will break loose easily and not damage paint or varnish.

Turn on the Fan

Ceiling fans are a great way to help cool

your house in the summer, and they come in handy during the winter months too. For the winter reverse the direction of airflow on your fans. Since warm air rises, the fan blades will push the air down and help keep the toastier air in circulation.

How do you know if your fan is rotating in the right direction for winter? Here's the trick - turn your fan on and look up. For winter, your fan's blades should be moving clockwise.

Oops.

Clem - you got some explaining to do!
