Raffles for 501c3s

Can a 501c3 conduct a raffle for a tangible item? In this case it is part of a larger event. The organization is selling raffle tickets for one prize while the host business is selling other tickets for other prizes. Also, can board members of the organization buy tickets? Of course the common sense answer is that it doesn't look good for your own people to win, but any legal concerns? Any help is most appreciated.

Purpose statements vs. mission statement
I've heard that some associations are moving toward purpose statements instead of the traditional mission and vision statements. Anybody moving in that direction or have insights to share?
Join the discussion .

March 15-16, 2017
Join Michelle Czosek, CAE, WSAE president and CEO, and other Wisconsin peers for the American Associations Day. The annual event is the only legislative fly-in where association professionals like you can connect with Congressional offices and share your story on important association issues, like the DOL overtime rule, tax reform and the importance of federal employee attendance at association meetings. This unique opportunity allows you, as an association professional, to create connections with policy-makers that will not only advance the association industry, but your own organization, as well. Registration is free and up to $300 in scholarships is available for travel reimbursement to out-of-town attendees. More information can be found at www.thepowerofa.org/hillvisit.

Legislative Update
ASAE joins CVBs in opposing Texas SB 6
ASAE is part of a coalition of like-minded organizations that met with key members of the Texas legislature to voice their opposition to Senate Bill 6, a bill that would deny public accommodations to members of the LGBTQ community. SB 6 is a top legislative priority of Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and is similar to a controversial law in North Carolina that has drawn widespread opposition from businesses, sports leagues and entertainers and contributed to the state's Republican governor Pat McCrory losing his reelection bid last fall.

VISIT Milwaukee turns 50
VISIT Milwaukee, the region's destination marketing organization responsible for attracting conventions, events, business and leisure travel to the Greater Milwaukee area, celebrates 50 years in 2017.

Incorporated as the Milwaukee Convention & Visitors Bureau on Jan. 6, 1967, VISIT Milwaukee began as a joint proposal between the Milwaukee Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Milwaukee Hotel-Motel Association and the Wisconsin Restaurant Association to "re-establish Milwaukee as a major convention city." In 1977, the bureau changed its name to the Greater Milwaukee Convention & Visitors Bureau and in 2004, to VISIT Milwaukee. When incorporated, the Milwaukee CVB was the only organization of its kind in the state.
