Shirley Isola's beautiful scratchboard, "McClintok," won Best in Show in Richeson's annual "Animals, Birds, and Wildlife" competition.
The Judge's, Terry Stanley's, comments were posted on the website with each of the winners. Here are the comments about Shirley's:
"Mastery is evident in every aspect of this artwork. Composition, anatomy of the subject, perspective, and textures achieved with scratchboard are all spot-on. "McClintok" caught my eye on the first run through of the finalists and I came back to it time after time. This is simply a fantastic piece that continues to hold my attention and admiration."
All so very well deserved praise!

here for photos, directions, and more information. Hoping for good weather, but you never know this time of year, so if it's too cold, rainy or windy, the event is cancelled. To be on the e-mail announcement list contact Vesla by e-mail -

A Show to Enter
Every two years, St. John's Lutheran Church sponsors an art festival featuring works from artists throughout the northern California region and emphasizing spiritual and religious themes.
This year the theme is "Let The Spirit Sing!" and the art will be juried by noted Sacramento artist, Jerry Silva. The show begins with a champagne reception, open to the public, on March 9 and will continue through March 19, 2017.
They accept work from all media and encourage participation from beginning artists, as well as well-seasoned ones. Submissions will be accepted March 4 and 5. For all the details, visit
