A Word From The Board- Craig Larsen
At the Chamber we have embarked on a multi-year strategic planning process.  Last year, as part of this effort we conducted a survey.  One of the things we learned was that a large portion of our membership needed help with their marketing efforts.  So, to answer that need, we created a six-part marketing series that took place over 2016.  Our goal is to continue to offer programming that meets the needs of our members, so keep your eyes open for what we will be offering in 2017.
Another outcome of our strategic planning process was to develop some longer-term goals for the Chamber itself.  The board and staff met for three strategic planning  meetings, starting in the fall of 2015.  At our most recent planning meeting we came up with the following goals:
Create key partnerships and strong collaboration within the community , by connecting business, government and the community.  Be a driver and partner for economic development in the St. Charles region.
Increase brand awareness through marketing and promotion .   Increase visibility and community presence and involvement.  Using our social media strategy, and the website as a key resource.
Evaluate relevance of the chamber within our community . Work to make the Chamber the "go to" resource for new and existing businesses.  Establish a mentoring program for business. Partner with workforce development and schools to help develop future skilled employees. Enhance legislative presence and action.
Position the St . Charles Chamber of Commerce to the above mentioned goals. Increase Chamber resourcing (e.g. Marketing).  Enhanced facility which is reflective of our vision and will position the Chamber to achieve long term goals and objectives.  Evaluate potential to adopt "Smart Chamber" technology. Identify Target Market for membership.  Begin the process of moving towards becoming an Accredited Chamber.
We will be excited to share updates on the progress of these goals in future issues of this newsletter.  My thanks to the board and staff for devoting so much time to the strategic planning meetings that we have held over the past year.  We at the Chamber will continue to work on behalf of all of our members and the City of St. Charles to make St. Charles a great place to live, work, and locate a business.

State Street Jewelers

The 200 block of State Street has housed a jewelry store since 1915, when the Fargo Block building was built. State Street Jewelers is in its third location on the block. It has doubled its size and currently employs a staff of 12.
The face of State street Jewelers is the highly trained staff; many have been in the business for over 30 years.  As an ongoing part of employment, each staff member is required to take at least one class per year and attend seminars regularly.
The store has two graduate gemologists, two bench jewelers and several employees taking their continuing education through Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
State Street Jewelers also encourages each member of the staff to be involved in a local charity because the store wants to give back to the community.  Staff members are involved with groups like Anderson Animal Shelter, The Holmstad, Hospice, and Fox Valley Food for Health to name a few.  In the last year, their donations to local schools, churches and fundraisers have exceeded $30,000.
From the very beginning State Street Jewelers' goal has been to provide a full service jewelry store.  They carry Hearts On Fire Diamonds, the world's most perfectly cut diamond; Tacori engagement rings and jewelry, Baume et Mercier watches, Swiss made since 1830; Simon G Fine Jewelry, Elle Silver Jewelry, Belle e Toile Jewelry, Tissot watches, and many other fine lines of jewelry.
Twice a year, staff members travel over 8,000 miles to Antwerp, Belgium to hand select diamonds for their customers.  In Belgium, they are able to buy directly from the sightholders.
State Street Jewelers will also custom make any design that you can dream of.  You can be involved in the whole process, from a sketch to a beautiful piece of jewelry.
The repair shop can also restore or refurbish your heirloom jewelry to make it sparkle again or get it ready to hand down to the next generation.  Its services also include restringing, engraving and appraisal work.
The staff at State Street Jewelers would be honored to help you with any of your jewelry needs.
