Upcoming Alumni Hockey and Basketball Games

For the past several years, St. Bon's has held an Annual Alumni Hockey Game. We are pleased to continue with this tradition. Based on its success,  some members of the alumni community have come forward in the interest of having an Alumni Basketball Game. We are excited to inform you that we will be hosting both a hockey game and basketball game this year.

On Thursday, March 15th, the Senior Basketball Team will face off against a group of alumni basketball players. The game will run from 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm in the St. Bon's Gym. Later that afternoon, at 2 pm, the puck will be dropped at Bussey Horwood Arena as the Junior High Hockey Team takes on the Alumni Hockey Team.

We are looking for players for both the basketball and hockey teams - all are welcome! If you are able to play on Thursday, March 15th, please contact Jessica Whalen at jwhalen@stbons.ca or (709)726-0024 Ext. 228.

What's Happening at SBC?
  • Our Junior High and Senior High students celebrated the end of Term 1 with the New Year's Ball Semi-Formal Dance. Music, multicoloured lights, a photo booth, and a snow cone machine made for a fun evening - there were lots of tired feet by the end of the evening!
  • Our Grade 7 Girls Rowing Team - who won a gold medal in last year's St. John's Regatta - began practicing this month in preparation for the 200th Royal St. John's Regatta this coming August.
  • Grade 8 student Alicia Mason-Quinton recently won the 2017 Royal Conservatory Gold Medal for grade 6 piano for receiving the highest mark in Atlantic Canada. A big congratulations to Alicia on such an amazing accomplishment!
  • This Sunday, January 28 at 7:00 pm in the St. Bon's Aula Maxima, our Christian Service Program students will present their experiences from The Gathering Place, McMorran Centre and the Computers for Seniors Program in a special Parent Night. The Christian Service Program is an integral part of our students formation as men and women for others, and we look forward to welcoming parent interest and understanding. You are more than welcome to attend if you would like to hear more about the students' experiences with this important program.

  • St. Bon's will be hosting a tournament with our Grade 8 Girls Basketball Team held in the St. Bon's gym Feb. 16th - Feb. 18th.
  • Our Annual Spelling Bee for Grades 4-6 will be held on the afternoon of February 2nd in the Aula Maxima.
  • A huge congratulations to Grade 10 student Sarah Chaytor '20 and her teammates from Team Glynn - they made it to the championship pool in Quebec City for the 2018 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. They played great against mostly older teams in the under 21 tournament and took 6th place! Check out this article from CBC for more information.

St. Bon's and the Tely 10
The St. Bon's community has a large population of runners. The Alumni Committee has proposed the idea of inviting any St. Bon's students, alumni, parents or supporters to don a St. Bon's top as they run the Tely 10 this year. We are collecting information to see if there is enough interest in this before we decide to order any. Please forward your name to jwhalen@stbons.ca if you would be interested in wearing a St. Bon's shirt in the 2018 Tely 10.
