JANUARY 2018 E-NEWSLETTER
A Message From Our President

Happy New Year! I am so excited for 2018 and all the great things we have planned for the upcoming year! Be sure to join us at one of our support groups this month as we resume all of our regular monthly activities now that the holiday season is over. We will also be hosting  the next Sensory Friendly Family Roller Skating Party at Skateworld on January 14th - it's a perfect way to celebrate the three day weekend! On Saturday, January 20th, you can join us at the Kendra Scott boutique at the Fashion Valley Mall for Kendra Gives Back . Stop by and visit with us, have a glass of wine and a treat, and pick out a great Valentine's Day gift, all while helping raise money for autism programs here in San Diego!

You are invited to join us for our Annual Meeting on Thursday, January 25th at 6:00 PM at our office at the United Way Building. At this meeting, we will announce our new board of directors for 2018 and I will present our annual report, followed by our treasurer's presentation of our annual budget. Light refreshments will be served, and we would love to have our members come and and learn about our accomplishments in 2017 as well as what we have planned for 2018!

We are also looking forward to our next Family Camp Weekend at beautiful Camp Marston in mountains of Julian, which will be held on the weekend of April 13th-15th. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate Autism Acceptance month myself! Be sure to also save the date for our biggest fundraiser of the year, Splash for Cash, which will be held on Sunday, April 29th. You won't want to miss our biggest pool party of the year, which includes breakfast and lunch prepared by our favorite San Diego firefighters, a fabulous silent auction, and several exciting special guests!

Best wishes for a happy 2018,
Amy  Munera

AUTISM SOCIETY COLLABORATIONS
Get connected with Connections!!

The National Comedy Theatre is pleased to offer  CONNECTIONS - An improv program designed specifically for teens, ages 13-17, who are on the autism spectrum.

This program uses improvised theater to teach creative thinking, listening and social awareness to help individuals develop a variety of social/communication skills in a fun and safe environment.

Students on the spectrum will have the opportunity to explore a variety of emotions, listening skills, social skills and pragmatic language while building relationships with peers through play. These skills are taught through various games and improvised scenarios that help individuals explore together and laugh with each other. These 6-week programs are designed to meet each individual's needs but with a goal of fun, friendship and improved social skills for each student.

The Autism Society San Diego is so excited to be able to keep you up to date on the events of the Connections program. To learn more about the class and discuss the needs of your teen - call 619-500-4628 or  sandiego@nationalcomedy.com.

Connections is seeking instructors and volunteers!

If you have a passion for theatre or know someone who has experience working with teens on the spectrum, Connections is looking for assistance with running weekly classes! The Connections directors are happy to sign off on volunteer hours for high school improv teams looking to branch out and make Connections of their own with this amazing group of aspiring improvisational actors.

Please contact program director Richie Ploesch at  sandiego@nationalcomedy.com if you would like to get involved!
