WHAT'S HAPPENING IN ABACO
New Year's Day in Abaco:
Experience Junkanoo
Photos from www.bahamasairtours.com
Junkanoo , named after the West African John Canoe Festival, originated in the Bahamas around the 17th century as a masquerade. Slaves with their faces hidden under a flour paste, celebrated on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas), New Year's Day and throughout the summer... Today, as a cultural expression,  Junkanoo  is highly revered.

Bringing in the new year with a bang is a tradition known to the island of Abaco. Every New Year's Day a Junkanoo parade displaying breathtaking sights and vibrant sounds fills the historic streets of New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay, in celebration of a new year.

Book your trip now and be here to

experience Junkanoo in 2018/2019
