InTouch - January 2019
Continuing the conversation in 2019
As we embark on a new year, we remain committed to ongoing collaboration between MPAC and our municipal partners. We look forward to continuing the dialogue on the value of properties in your community, and we are working hard to produce the products and services you need most to understand and support your property assessment base.

Contact a member of your local MPAC Municipal and Stakeholder Relations team for support on any of our products or services, or send an email to to share your feedback. On behalf of everyone at MPAC, Happy New Year, and we look forward to working with you in 2019!
Connect with MPAC at the 2019 ROMA Annual Conference
We continue to work closely with you to understand the needs of communities in every part of Ontario. This year, we are once again looking forward to connecting with municipal leaders at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference , taking place in Toronto from January 27 to 29.

As councillors enter a new term, drop by our booth and get to know MPAC – learn about Ontario’s property assessment and taxation system, ask questions about your property assessment base, and find out how we play a part in strengthening rural communities across the province. Plus, don’t miss our learning lunch taking place at 11:45 a.m. on January 28 – join us for an interactive discussion on how MPAC’s work affects municipal taxation, and find out what you can expect as we gear up for the next province-wide Assessment Update in 2020.
2018 year-end assessment report
By now you should have received MPAC’s 2018 year-end assessment report for the 2019 tax year – a valuable resource that provides updates on our work in 2018 to deliver a stable assessment roll, as well as an inside look at our plans for 2020. Contact a member of your local MPAC Municipal and Stakeholder Relations team to review customized, municipal-level snapshots to help you understand changes to your property assessment base to inform ongoing budget and tax policy planning.
Let MPAC support your council orientation plans
Members of our Municipal and Stakeholder Relations team are busy setting up meetings with council members in order to discuss your municipal property assessment base, answer questions and hear about local priorities to help us serve you better. If you haven’t yet set a date, please contact us to arrange a customized presentation to your new council – we can help you share information on property assessment and taxation issues in your community, and review your municipality’s 2018 Assessment Roll for the 2019 property tax year and year-end tax file.
Reports on new assessment coming soon
New assessment refers to new construction and/or additions to existing property that have not been assessed by MPAC. We understand new assessment is a key source of revenue for municipalities, and ongoing dialogue about new assessment activity in your municipality is important to you.

In 2018, we delivered more than $38 billion in new assessment to municipalities across Ontario. In the coming weeks, you will have access to new reports via Municipal Connect that provide additional details about the 2018 new assessment activity in your municipality:

New assessment report – year-end
  • This new report consolidates each quarterly new assessment forecast against what was processed in 2018, to provide an overall snapshot of new assessment activity in your municipality.

Processing of supplementary and omitted assessments
  • This report measures whether we met our commitment to process at least 85% of total supplementary and omitted assessed changes within one year of occupancy.

Updated 2019 new assessment forecast report
  • This is an update to the preliminary new assessment forecast report that was shared with you in October of 2018. Given the timing of that report, the forecast numbers have been updated to reflect updated information (such as M-plans or condo numbers). As this information is now available, we’ve updated the forecast and re-run the analysis in order to provide you with the most up-to-date information.
