From The Co-Presidents

Hi   ,

Happy New Year!  We hope you all enjoyed having your cadet(s) home for the holiday break.  We certainly enjoyed having our 2021 USAFA cadet and our 2022 Texas A&M Cadet home with us...love having a full house!  And we thoroughly enjoyed CASAB 2018 as we wrapped up 2018 at the Broadmoor Resort.  It was so much fun to see so many CPC families in attendance!  A huge thank you goes out to Marne Trujillo for everything she did as our CPC representative on the CASAB committee.  She poured many hours into this event, soliciting door prizes, collecting RSVPs and being our USAFA voice on the multi-academy committee.  US Naval Academy Parents' Club has hosting honors for 2019, and plans are already underway for this year's event!  If you're interested in getting involved, please reach out to Marne, [email protected].

We are excited about the new year and look forward to continuing CPC's legacy of service to our Colorado Cadets and their families in 2019.  We have lots of great things planned this year, and will kick off the year with our Valentine's Goodie Bag campaign in February.  (See below for details on how you can get involved!) March brings us a newly sponsored CPC event... Colorado Night!  Our PR and Events chairs, Jim and Nathalie Flannery are busy coordinating details for this inaugural event with their team of volunteers.  This event will be held on March 21st in Arnold Hall.  Want to get involved?  We'd love to have your help...just shoot Jim and Nathalie an email:  [email protected]. We will need to collect donations for door prizes (i.e. gift cards, etc.), food (desserts) and beverage donations, as well as volunteers to help the evening of the event!  We will have our End of Year Celebration on April 7th...and our committee chairs, Dan & Denise Bruder and DeVita Bruce, are busy planning this event to celebrate the end of the 2018/2019 academic year and highlight our Class of 2019 CPC cadets.  May brings graduation for our Class of 2019 and before you know it, we'll be hosting the 2019 I-day picnic in June!  There are so many opportunities to get involved, and we'd love to have you contribute your talents, time and energy!  Just reach out to us or any board member or committee chair, and we'll get you involved!  Here's to a great 2019!

A great time was had by all who attended the 2018 CASAB!  Despite the frigid temperatures, everyone had a wonderful evening celebrating the Colorado cadets and midshipmen attending the five service academies.  USAFA was well-represented, and we even had one of the international students at USAFA attend this year.  If you'd like to get involved with the 2019 CASAB, let us know!  It will be hosted by United States Naval Academy parents, but the committee is comprised of members of each service academy.  Reach out to Marne Trujillo, this year's USAFA representative, for more details:  [email protected].

Here are a few of our favorite photos from the night, courtesy of MicClik.  Please visit this link to see all of the photos.  Mic provides his services every year, free of charge, to honor his Army Veteran Father.  Please return the favor and support his business!

VALENTINE'S DAY GOODIE BAGS

As most of you know, our primary fundraiser (which funds the annual I-day picnic) is our Goodie Bag program. As a benefit of CPC membership, your cadet will receive a Spring Finals Goodie Bag. If you haven't ordered your Halloween or Valentine's Goodie Bags, it's not too late.

Consider ordering for cadets you sponsor, your cadet's roommate, or simply purchase an extra that can be donated to those cadets (identified by their AOC's) who need a little pick-me-up.   The order deadline for Valentine's Day Orders is 5 February.

PLEASE NOTE: If you previously ordered the 3 Goodie Bag Value Pack, you do not need to place another order. Your cadet will receive their bag before Valentine's Day. Thank you.

Our Goodie Bag Coordinator, Donna Bajek, runs a very well organized program, but it is a major undertaking which requires a lot of behind the scenes help. We need volunteers to help us assemble the Goodie Bags prior to each delivery.  Consider helping assemble the Valentine's Goodie Bags on  Sunday, February 10th, location TBD (in Cadet Area).  It's a great way to get to know your fellow CPC members AND give back to our cadets! Times and duties can be found in the link below:

Follow us on Facebook!
Please share photos of your cadet in action throughout the school year. We'd love to share what our Colorado cadets are doing on our page!  Please send updates and photos to our PR Team, Jim and Nathalie Flannery at:  [email protected]
Get to Know Your CPC Board & Committee Chairs

Each month we will be introducing a new board or committee member, so our general membership can get to know the team that is working hard behind the scenes.  This month, meet your End of Year Celebration Committee Chairs, Denise and Dan Bruder ('21), and DeVita Bruce ('18 and '20)

The Bruder's daughter, Brooke, is a C3C and competes on the Gymnastics Team.  They serve as the Parents Liaisons for the Women's Gymnastics Team.  They live in Superior, CO,  and have another daughter, Brittany, who will be graduating from CU, Boulder in May.  Dan is CEO of Fusion Dynamics, a Strategy and Leadership advisory firm, and teaches Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the MBA programs at CSU and CU, Boulder. Denise works for the Endurance Race Series and spends her time organizing Half Marathons, 10k and 5k races in Colorado and Southern California.  They are originally from Florida but love living in Colorado and have embraced the Colorado lifestyle.  When they are not working, you will find them traveling, biking, hiking, swimming or running.

Lt. Col. Mical Bruce (Ret) and DeVita Bruce served two terms as Co-Presidents of Colorado Parents' Club,  2016-17 and 2017-18. Mical is a 757/767 Captain, Check Airman and Evaluator with United Airlines. DeVita is a philanthropist, community volunteer, and an Education Administrator with the Denver Public Schools. Their son, 2nd Lt Charles "Chas" Bruce, USAFA Class of 2018, is assigned to Space Operations at Buckley AFB. Their daughter, C2C Micala Bruce (USAFA Class of 2020), has legacied into CS-11 and is a Systems Engineering major. The Bruces enjoy traveling the world, giving back to the USAFA community, and spoiling their 10+ (official and unofficial) sponsor cadets.

Next month...meet your Goodie Bag Committee Members:
Jennifer Hermann ('22)
Michele Huff ('22)
Nicoletta Mason ('22)
Volunteers Needed:  New Appointee Luncheon and I-day 2019
It's not to early for us to start thinking about the USAFA Class of 2023 families!  We can use your help with two very important events in June...the first being the New Appointee Luncheon.  Preliminary arrangements have been made for this event, to be held on June 15, 2019.  Please consider lending your time and talents to chair this event. Please reach out to Jim and Nathalie Flannery if you'd like to learn more about how you can get involved:  [email protected].

The signature event for the Colorado Parent's Club is the I-day picnic we host for ALL USAFA families as they drop off their sons and daughters to begin their adventure at the Air Force Academy.  While the next picnic isn't until Thursday, June 28, 2019, it's not too early for us to start the planning process!

Jim and Nathalie Flannery ('21) will be chairing the event and are looking for volunteers to head various sub-committees:

- Photo Booth (gather props as needed, coordinate photographer, photo uploads, etc.)
- Letter Writing (stationery supply, basic cadet squadron info, letters delivery, etc.)
- Hospitality - Denise Bruder ('21), chair
- Communication (works with other sub-committees and prepare signage and/or banner as necessary; bus/field house liaison, etc.)
- Video/Photography (falls under Communication, but we need a few dedicated photographers to capture pictures throughout the event)
- Entertainment (POC for any special events held throughout the day, i.e. falconry team, music, etc.)
- Food  - Jeff Ditlevson ('21) and Mike Leonard ('21), chairs

This event is one of the most rewarding ways you can give back to the USAFA community.  We highly encourage Class of 22 families to volunteer, as I-day is still fresh in your minds!

Please contact:  [email protected], if you're interested in chairing one of the sub-committees listed above.
