Drag Queen Story Hour Returns!
January 6 - 3:00 p.m.

This fun and fabulous all-ages event features local drag queens reading children's stories and doing crafts. Expect sparkles, glamorous dress-up, and a friendly atmosphere.

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) was developed by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions. Many libraries host DQSR events as a way of celebrating diversity, building empathy, and helping to curb bullying of LGBTQ kids.

This event is co-sponsored by the UP Center of Champaign County.

Second Saturday Board Games

Join us for this monthly drop-in program for all ages. Choose a game to play from the library's collection of board games for adults and families. We have some old classics like  Go and  Backgammon , as well as new favorites like deck-building  Dominion  and treasure-hunting  Tobago . Never heard of 'em? No problem. We'll have staff and volunteers standing by to lead demonstrations of how to play. Grab a beverage at the cafe and spend an enjoyable afternoon playing games with friends at the library.
Chess + For Kids New Year Party

Say farewell to the old year and ring in the new year by playing chess or other board games! Kids, ages 5 and up & caregivers are welcome. Kids 7 and under need an accompanying adult. Light refreshments (while they last) will be provided.

Urbana Arts Grant-Writing Workshop

Join the staff of the Urbana Public Arts Program for a workshop on the Urbana Arts Grant program and learn what makes a strong grant application. Connect with others interested in seeking collaborators and funding for new arts initiatives in our city! This *free* workshop invites local artists and organizations to learn more about the program and learn tips and tricks for a strong grant application. 

The Urbana Public Arts Program awards nearly $50,000 in grant support each cycle to selected projects in a diversity of mediums including creative writing, dance, film, video, music, theatre, visual arts, crafts, performing arts, spoken word, environmental arts, multimedia arts, architectural arts, landscape architecture, and emerging media.

UFLive! Presents The Joey Glassman Trio with Kevin Hart

Vibraphonist Joey Glassman is joined by Crystal Rebone (Bass), James Sims (Drums), and special guest Kevin Hart (Vibraphone). 

Joey Glassman is a professional Jazz vibraphonist, percussionist, composer, and educator. With over 20 years experience, he has been performing all over the Champaign-Urbana and Denver areas with ensembles and artists such as Chip McNeill, Donnie Heitler, Jeff Helgesen, Brad Wheeler, the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, The Sinfonia da Camera, and The Colorado Symphony.

Celebrate Books with Will Hillenbrand, Children's Book Author!

Join us as we celebrate books with Will Hillenbrand, popular children's picture book creator of over 70 books, including the  Bear and Mole  series,  Snowman’s Story , and many other favorites. Through his interactive presentation, Mr. Hillenbrand will share his process of book creation with families, followed by a book signing. Young Artist's Studio: Color Collage
January 27 - 3:00 p.m.

Join us for the next installment of our  Young Artist’s Studio , featuring local artist, ElizaBeth Simpson. Youth participants will create their own color collages through a guided exercise using assorted colorful scraps of paper and their own imaginations. Each participant will have a collage to take home at the end. Arts supplies are provided. Dress comfortably and get ready to roll up those sleeves!

The  Young Artist's Studio  is a series of art workshops sponsored by  The Urbana Free Library  and the  Urbana Public Arts Program  designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts.  

All events in the series are free and open to the public.   For children ages 5 to 11 (7 and under with a caregiver).
Teen Open Lab: Most Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons after 3:00 p.m. Music recording, 3D printing, sewing, reading, drawing, crafting, gaming, film-making, or just hanging out!
The Teen Open Lab has something for everyone!
