SB 54 - Possession of Real Property; Repealing provisions relating to a governmental entity’s establishment of recreational customary use on a portion of a beach above the mean high-water line on private property, etc.

SB 70 - State Funds; Exempting the State Housing Trust Fund and the Local Government Housing Trust Fund from a provision authorizing the Legislature, in the General Appropriations Act, to transfer unappropriated cash balances from specified trust funds to the Budget Stabilization Fund and the General Revenue Fund, etc. Bill Text

SB 78 - Public Financing of Construction Projects; Prohibiting state-financed constructors from commencing construction of certain structures in coastal areas without first conducting a sea level impact projection study and having such study published and approved by the Department of Environmental Protection; requiring the department to develop by rule standards for such studies; providing for enforcement; requiring the department to publish such studies on its website, subject to certain conditions, etc. Bill Text

Pinellas County MPO moves transportation initiatives forward

CLEARWATER Forward Pinellas is a land use and transportation planning agency. We guide integrated transportation and land use solutions that sustain economic value by connecting the communities of Pinellas County and the Tampa Bay region.

Land near Walt Disney World sold to FDOT for nearly $70M
More than 38 acres of land — part of which was for a planned shopping center near Walt Disney World — have been sold to the Florida Department of Transportation for nearly $70 million, or about $1.8 million an acre, collectively, sources told Orlando Business Journal.

Lagoons, flights and red tide: Tourism stories that made a splash in 2018
Readers couldn't wait to dip their toes into a crystal clear lagoon nor could they resist catching a flight to a new nonstop destination.

The most-read tourism stories ranged from images of a crystal lagoon being built in Wesley Chapel to the not-so-clear waters impacted by red tide and the new nonstop flights both domestic and international they could hop on.

Tourism is a $6 billion-plus industry in Tampa Bay that itself brings in nearly 500,000 international visitors from Europe, Latin America and beyond. It also supports supports 50,000 jobs.


New year brings minimum wage, workers' comp changes in Florida
Minimum-wage workers will get a pay raise, businesses will get a break on insurance bills and a few new laws will take effect Tuesday as 2019 begins in Florida.

Minimum-wage workers will start earning $8.46 an hour Tuesday, up from $8.25 an hour in 2018 — and more than a dollar above the $7.25 federal minimum wage.
