Birthdays!
Let’s start the new year off right with some birthdays! Where are all my January babies at! Time to celebrate! I hope you have a great birthday and an awesome year!
KAMISHA' CORNER!

On November 3 rd my EPIC crew and I had our sixth annual Boston Serve event where we painted Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. Boston Serve is one of my favorite projects to do because not only are you meeting new people but you are also giving back to the community at the same time, which is a win, win in my book! At the end of the day I was drenched in paint from head to toe and I absolutely loved every minute of it! To this day Blaze (my chair still has paint on her, I love it because I think it gives her character!) EPIC is currently looking for Service Warriors between the ages of 16-23 if you know anyone that would be interested in the program please check epicleaders.org!

Happy Haitian Independence Day!
Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Haitians out there.

I recently found out the history of Haitian Independence Day and the reason we drink Squash Soup also known Soup Joumou. January 1 st is a very important day because our people gained freedom from slavery by the French colonizers. The slaves were forbidden from drinking the soup. Haitian Independence Day was declared by Jean-Jacques Dessalines the revolutionary leader on January 1 st 1804. To celebrate we drink the soup every year. Honestly I didn’t know the history behind it until now. I remember the soup as Grandma’s Soup because she would make it a lot for me when I was growing up. Every time my Grandma makes it there’s a smile on my face because it reminds of her!

Relationships Can Be So Hard to Understand
Relationships can be so hard to understand. What do you do when a friend or someone you love hurts your feelings or your body? Many people do not have the skills or strength to stand up for themselves.

M.A.S.S. has a training, Awareness and Action , that will help you build skills to help you stand up to that person and call for help when you need it.
If you would like M.A.S.S. to deliver this training where you work or some other location please contact M.A.S.S.' Director of Training, Louise. She will help schedule the training. Her contact information is  Louise@ma-advocates.org . 617.872.4169.
