ASAE American Associations Day
|
|
American Associations Day is March 28-29, 2019
American Associations Day is the only legislative fly-in where association professionals like you can connect with Congressional offices and share your story on important association issues. This year our issues will be the value of association meetings to the economy and society along with association tax issues.
This unique opportunity allows you, as an association professional, to create connections with policy-makers that will not only advance the association industry, but your own organization as well.
The event is open to any association executive, staff member, or leadership volunteer that is passionate about association issues and wants to make a difference, as well as meet and network with fellow advocates from across the country. Registration is free, and out-of-town attendees are eligible to receive a scholarship of up to $300 to reimburse travel costs if they visit their members of Congress. The education session on Thursday, March 28 is worth 3.5 CAE credit hours. Please note that this year the Hill visits will take place on Friday, March 29. Congress will not be in session, but this will allow Congressional staff to focus on our meetings and our message.

Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) changes name to Destination Madison
A new name kicks off an exciting 2019
The 2019 calendar flip unveiled an exciting undertaking as the Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) became "Destination Madison" - a name that reflects the passion, pride and spirit shared by the people who call the greater Madison area home.
Destination Madison reflects the changing dynamic of Madison and the types of visitors the area attracts. The name grew out of a two-year destination visioning research study that revealed Madison was a city for "seekers." The new name captures the tangible vibrancy and inherent independence found in Madison venues, events, businesses and community culture that appeals to these travelers. Destination Madison says, "seek us out and you will be amazed."
"The move to the Destination Madison name and brand better connects our city to the travelers who visit us and the residents who call the area home," remarked Deb Archer, President and CEO of Destination Madison. "Destination Madison encapsulates our welcoming, imaginative and exciting region and inspires visitors to seek out this special place."

Does anyone have new member (or renewing member) materials that they'd like to show off? We're looking for some new ideas. Welcome letter? Check. List of benefits? Check. Plaques and certificates? Check. Want to find a way to package all of this together or develop something brand new.
What do you use that works? Examples appreciated.

"The beach was too sandy" - Happy members are a nonnegotiable
I've been thinking, writing and talking a lot about Association 4.0. That's how I describe best practices in a game-changing time for the association community and across the business world. Technology is driving the most visible disruption. So, it's easy to forget that the new online community or e-learning platform you just launched is not going to make or break your success. But the members who use those systems will. Dr. Karen Bartuch's recent presentation at .orgCommunity's Solutions Day event,
Making the Unreasonable Happen: The Art of Customer Service in a 24-Hour World, was a great reminder of the need to put our members first.

ASAE and the Coalition to Protect and Promote Association Health Plans filed an amicus brief in federal court last month supporting the Department of Labor's authority to issue its final AHP regulations last summer. The coalition's amicus brief, filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, backs the administration's motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the attorneys general of 11 states and the District of Columbia that seeks to invalidate the final AHP rule
