THE RELEVANT RECAP
Dear Chamber & Community Friends,
Over the course of 2018, the Chamber leadership conducted a deep dive exploration into what members want, what they found of value, what makes our Chamber and in fact, most Chambers obsolete and what directions we could and should take to best meet the needs of our community and our businesses.

What resulted is a Strategic Plan that should serve you better. Dr. Rodney Watson, the superintendent of Spring schools, serves as the 2019 Chamber chairman of the Board. He will deliver a video message at the Diamonds & Ice Gala and at the February 14th Luncheon that will articulate our direction. I invite you to come aboard! See the 2019 Strategic Plan below and take a look at the new Membership Paths!

Sincerely,
Barbara Thomason
President

2019-2024 Chamber Strategic Plan

The VISION of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce is to serve as the voice of the business, municipal, government and philanthropic entities of our community, fostering unity, growth & success for generations.

Our MISSION remains To Develop Successful Businesses and a Thriving Community.

For 2019, our Strategic Goals are:
1) To develop and maintain the highest caliber of Chamber leadership. [This means leadership in staff, volunteer, Board and in the community!]

2) To grow Chamber membership through recruitment and retention successes. [We must rebuild after Harvey hurt so many member businesses. Additionally, we are introducing NEW MEMBERSHIP PATHS to make membership bring you more value!]

3) Assess the Chamber’s marketing, technology and program offerings, both current and potential, and their level of support to businesses and the local economy.

4) Advance Public Policy Advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. [ View the Chamber's Public Policy Positions below.]
Chamber's 2019 Public Policy

The Public Policy Council is a Board-appointed body, chaired by Mr. David Riddle, that reviews issues and makes recommendations to the Board for advocacy positions. In preparation for the 86th Legislation Session, the following Position Statements were approved by the Board and will be communicated to our Legislators.

FINAL COUNTY JUDGE REPORT FROM JUDGE ED EMMETT

Since March 2007, I have had the privilege of serving as Harris County Judge. At no time during my tenure did I ever regret leaving the private sector to serve the residents of Harris County. As I will leave office on Jan. 1, it is appropriate for me to share some thoughts.

While I and other Harris County elected officials are in the news for better or worse, the employees of Harris County are remarkably dedicated servants of the residents of Harris County. I will always be proud to have worked among them...
The Chamber's annual Member Appreciation Luncheon in 6 days (Jan. 10) will celebrate the special 5, 10, and 15+ year anniversaries of our members! Come celebrate with your Chamber community and meet your Board as Judge Lincoln Goodwin inducts them!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Brenda Velazquez
My name is Brenda Velazquez, and I am Co-Founder and Co-CEO of this family owned and operated electrical sign company. Our business was started years ago by our mother, Elvia Medina, a neon glass fabricator in the 80s for one of the oldest sign companies in Houston. During the 90s, neon glass blowers became rare in Houston helping one of our owners, Luis Velazquez, stand out. In 2001, Luiz with his experience and I with my passion for business economics and visual communications, teamed up. Our company has the capability to design, fabricate, permit, install, and provide service for any type of electrical signs- including LED boards. We also provide retrofit service, rigging, and lighting service on light poles and warehouse lighting. Some of the types of signs we love to work with are: Monument Signs, Pylon / Multi Tenant Signs, Architecture Signs, Channel Letters, Routed Iron, and just about anything the eye can see. Each client’s budget is different and we work especially hard to assist small business / start ups because we know the impact that business brings to our community and signs bring to business.
