Ted's Talk
Dear friends,
In his New Year’s Day homily last week, Pope Francis urged all of us to
be amazed
.
“Amazement is what we should feel at the beginning of each year,” he said, “for life is a gift that constantly gives us a chance to make a new start. … God has become one with humanity forever. God and humanity, always together, that is the good news of this new year. God is no distant lord, dwelling in splendid isolation above the heavens, but
love incarnate
, born like
us of a mother, in order to become a brother to each of us.”
For your many expressions of solidarity and generosity that witness to love incarnate, we say thank you.
Throughout this new year, may we all grasp and follow this truth of the incarnation: That like Christ, we too are called to become brother and sister to all of humanity. Then let us join hands and walk this journey together.
Peace and every good!

No, we're not talking NFL playoffs here, but a
health promoter program
in the remote
Petén
jungle of Guatemala that Maryknoll lay missioners initiated 40 years ago, and that is still going strong.
Returned lay missioner Liz Desimone (class of 1977) recently reported on the lasting ties of Maryknoll lay missioners to a program that is led today by
Carmen Ché Chóc,
a talented
Kek’chi woman, who at age 15 was among its first graduates.

Their mission journey begins
|
Please pray for our 12 new lay missioners
(and the three Veryser kids, Abigail, Claire and Justin, here showing their approval at last month's Sending Ceremony), who just last week made their way to their new mission sites. In the next few months, they will learn the languages and cultures of their host countries
—
Bolivia, El Salvador, Haiti, Kenya and Tanzania
—
and begin their involvement in ministries.
It was your generosity that enabled us to recruit, train and send this extraordinary group of dedicated missioners. Please continue to support their ongoing training and sustain their work and that of all of our lay missioners.
Your gifts make possible many transformative ministries
and programs that impact thousands of lives in the areas of health care, education, human rights, pastoral care, economic and sustainable development, and justice and peace.
