Flu season spiking, vaccines still available
|
|
Comal County is experiencing its worst flu season in two years, but it's still not too late to protect yourself and your loved ones by receiving a flu shot from the Office of Public Health.
The office accepts Medicaid and Community First CHIP for children age 18 and younger, and Blue Cross Blue Shield for all ages. Without insurance, the shot costs just $35.
For more information or to make an appointment, call 830-221-1150.

Jan. 31 is the deadline to pay property taxes before fines and late fees begin accruing.
The Comal County Tax Office collects for 20 entities – including the county, school districts, municipalities and various utility and service districts – and offers a variety of convenient ways to make your payment.
If you come into the office, make sure you bring your statement with you so you can use the express line without drawing a number. Click the photo above to watch a quick video about the Tax Office, or click the blue box below to visit their website and get more info.

Comal County residents can drop off their used live Christmas trees and holiday garland free of charge at the Moe Schwab Recycling Center through Jan. 17.
The center, at 281 Resource Drive northwest of New Braunfels, will accept any used natural holiday greenery – so long as residents remove tree stands, tinsel, ornaments and other decorations before bringing them for recycling.

Commissioners Jen Crownover (Precinct 4, top) and Donna Eccleston (Precinct 1, above) swear in new members of the county's Emergency Service District boards of trustees after Commissioners Court on Dec. 26. The boards are appointed by the court but otherwise operate independently to manage the budgets and operations of the county's seven districts, which are responsible for fire and EMS service outside of the City of New Braunfels.
