Christmas Tree and Wreath Disposals
During the month of January, Public Works personnel will pick up wreaths and Christmas trees left at the edge of the road. Lights, ornaments and other decorations must be removed for wreaths and trees to be collected.   Please note that Public Works staff is only picking up Christmas trees and wreaths; no other yard waste or branches can be collected.

It is not necessary to call in your tree or wreath to be collected, but if you have left it out a week or more and it has not been collected, please call the Public Works Office at 262-639-3560.
Wind Point School Development Meetings
Newport Development has submitted an application for its proposed residential redevelopment project at the former Wind Point School property. Newport is requesting approval to build 48 high end condominium units in 24 buildings. The request requires consideration of an application to rezone the property from Institutional District I-1 to Multiple Family Residence District R-4. The submitted plans and application materials are available for review at the Village Office and online.

There are two Village meetings currently scheduled for the review of the proposed development. These meetings will be held at the auditorium of The Prairie School, 4050 Lighthouse Drive. The auditorium is located in the main school building, directly south of the parking lot and can be accessed by the main (north) entrance to the school. These meetings are public meetings and anyone is welcome to attend. Below are the dates.

  • Wednesday, January 15 at 5:30 p.m. The Plan Commission will review the request to change the comprehensive plan, rezoning request and the proposed site plan.
  • Tuesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. The Architectural Review Board will review the design of the proposed condominiums.

This will be the first in a series of meetings that will need to be held for the proposed development. The Village will continue to provide updates regarding scheduled meetings to residents.

2020 Village Resident Survey
Please take a few minutes to complete the 2020 Wind Point Resident Survey. Resident's opinions and thoughts are extremely important. The information received from the survey will be used to assist the Board of Trustees and Village Staff with future policy decisions relating to the annual budget, day to day operations, services, programs, and project planning.

Property Taxes Due January 31
The full amount or first installment of property taxes is due by January 31. Payments may be made by mail, dropbox or in-person at the Village Office. Payments may also be made at any branch of Johnson Bank. After January 31, tax payments must be made to the Racine County Treasurer’s Office.

Dog License Reminder
Attention dog owners: Don't forget to obtain the annual dog license! A dog license application can be found on the bottom of the insert mailed with the property tax bill. Additional applications can be downloaded from the Village website or picked up at the Village Office. The fee for a dog license is $15 per altered (neutered or spayed) dog and $35 per unaltered dog. The fee increases by $10 for licenses obtained after April 1. Submit the application and fee along with a copy of an unexpired rabies certificate obtained from your veterinarian to the Village Office. If submitting by mail, be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the receipt and tag to be returned to you.  
DNR Eliminates Permit Step for Lake Michigan Properties with Erosion Problems
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has released a Great Lake Emergency Erosion Control Self-Certification form for residents who live on Lake Michigan and are being impacted by erosion caused by the high levels of the Lake.

Residents who meet a certain criteria for emergency work can submit this application (form 3500-127) to the DNR. Property owners should review the form and submit it to the email address provided. A formal permit is required to be applied for with the DNR within 18 months of completion of the emergency work.

The Village also requires that applicants for emergency shoreline work submit an application for a Village Zoning Permit. The permit can be found by going to the Village's permit page. Deadline for Village Board Nomination Forms is Tuesday, January 7
The deadline to submit nomination forms to run for Village Trustee is Tuesday, January 7, 2019 at 5 p.m. The incumbents for Village Trustee are Casey Jones and Emily Lawrence. Trustee Karen Van Lone will not be running for reelection.

Village Trustees serve two-year terms, with the next term beginning in May 2020 and ending in April 2022.

2020 Elections & Voting
As we begin 2020, here are some reminders regarding upcoming elections, voter registration and absentee ballots.

Election Dates
There are four scheduled elections for 2020.
  • Spring Primary: February 18
  • Spring Election & Presidential Primary: April 7
  • Partisan Primary- August 11
  • General and Presidential Election- November 3

All elections are held at the Prairie School Johnson Athletic Center, 4050 Lighthouse Drive.

Registering to Vote
You can register or re-register to vote online by going to My Vote Wisconsin. Eligible voters who hold a valid State of Wisconsin Driver License or State ID Card (WI DL/ID) that has their current name and address on file with the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles (WI DMV), may complete their registration entirely online.

If the voter is not able to match their information with the WI DMV records, then the registration must be completed by submitting the voter registration application form and proof of residence document with the Village Clerk, either in person of via mail.

You can also register to vote on Election Day. Be sure to bring with you an acceptable proof of residence document. Click this link for a guide to documents that are acceptable for proof of residency.

Absentee Voting
In office absentee voting generally occurs the two weeks prior to an election and is held during normal Village Office hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Village Office is located at 215 E. Four Mile Road.

You can request an absentee ballot be mailed to you by submitting the absentee ballot application to the Village Office. You may also request an absentee ballot online.

Photo Identification
Most Wisconsin voters are required to show an acceptable photo identification to vote. This includes if you plan to vote absentee. If you are unsure or need information on where to obtain an acceptable photo identification, you can visit Bring it to the Ballot for more information.

Village Board Updates
The Village Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2019. The following actions took place at the meeting:

  • Approved the purchase of a new steer loader and mini-excavator.
  • Approved Ordinance 19-05, to regulate and provide standards for cell tower and wireless facility construction in the Village.
  • Approved Ordinance 19-06, to help regulate the placement of small- cell towers within the Village's right of way.
  • Approved the request for proposal document that will be used to find developers for the Village-owned property at 4403 Main Street.
  • Approved the final plan set that will be used to bid the Lighthouse Grounds pathway construction project.
  • Presented retiring Police Chief Dave Rossman with a proclamation of appreciation for his 44 years of service to the Village of Wind Point.
  • Approved the questions for the 2020 Village Resident Survey.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Hall (Lighthouse).
