Prediabetes Common Among Teens, Young Adults  

New government research delivers some concerning news for U.S. teens -- almost 1 in 5 has prediabetes.

Young adults fared even worse -- 1 in 4 of those aged 19 to 34 have prediabetes, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report found.

A person with prediabetes has higher than normal blood  sugar  levels. The levels aren't yet high enough to be considered  type 2 diabetes . But often, people who have prediabetes go on to develop  type 2 diabetes .
Who is the Virginia Diabetes Council?

Diabetes is a health crisis of epidemic proportions. With over 114 million people affected, it is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.

The Virginia Diabetes Council is uniquely positioned to bring all diabetes organizations in Virginia together to better educate and treat those affected by this epidemic.

The Council is composed of educators, clinicians, health providers, and advocates who striving to find better ways in which to collaborate, educate, treat, and fund positive outcomes. We do this with an army of volunteers, positioned across the Commonwealth. Our Facebook posts alone are reaching nearly 7,000 people with critical, life-saving information.

Half of America will be obese within 10 years, study says, unless we work together.

If America does not collectively adopt healthier eating habits, over half of the nation will be obese within 10 years.
Even worse, one in four Americans will be "severely obese" with a body mass index over 35, which means they will be more than 100 pounds overweight

Diabetes Burnout Is Real, Here's How to Cope

Living with diabetes -- especially if you need insulin to survive -- is a never-ending job that can be life-threatening if done wrong. That constant daily stress can lead to "diabetes burnout," a new study says.
AWARENESS
According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion , diabetes affects an estimated 29.1 million people in the United States and is the seventh leading cause of death.
