January 2020 GVCO Newsletter

2019...Wow! There was the fabulously successful 1st Annual Cradles to Crayons donation drive; record turnout for our GVBL Rec league; our future partner Surrey Services for Seniors opened new programming in the Malvern area in conjunction with GVCO; Pickleball has taken off at the GVBL Center; we received our first foundational grant funding for our Challenger Gym program; and we had our first youth football team reach the league championship game. The list goes on! It was a fantastic year and our Great Valley Community Organization continues to grow. #GVCO #EverySingleDay
The expectations for 2020 and beyond are higher than ever. We will continue to build our core programming, while adding additional offerings as we anticipate the start of the site work for the new GVCO Community Center sometime this month!
We continue to need additional funding to complete the project but we have already begun to update the community through the "
Project Updates
" section of our website.

With the arduous approval and regulatory processes finally being completed,
2020 is shaping up to be a historic year for the community!
We are still several hundred thousand dollars from our campaign goal (see "real time"
thermometer
); but thanks to all of you, we are beginning to make the new GVCO Community Center a reality!

Thanks to a hardworking crew of GVCO Caring Hands volunteers and a very generous Great Valley community, we have been able to make many positive contributions towards making our community better!
During the last few months, GVCO Caring Hands launched its first ever clothing drive and donated a truck load of children's items for Cradles to Crayons; hand wrote Thanksgiving cards for Surrey Services' homebound seniors; wrapped and donated over 300 gifts for holiday parties for seniors through Great Valley and Phoenixville Area Senior Centers; raised funds by auctioning the Giant Nutcracker and donated $1,000 of gift cards to GVSD social worker for distribution throughout the school district and $1,000 specifically for our four families through the "Families in Need" initiative.
We are blessed with a great community - thanks to all!!

It's time to register for GV Crew! Boys and Girls grades 8 through 12 are encouraged to try this unique sport - no experience necessary.
The spring program includes practices in the gym and on the river, plus regattas on the Schuylkill and Cooper Rivers. (Please note that the 8th grade rowing program is training only. 8th graders can attend regattas but cannot compete, due to PSRA eligibility rules.)
Practices start February 19 at the WYRA boathouse on the Christina River in Wilmington Delaware. There is no bus transportation; however an optional parent-organized carpool minimizes parent trips to the boathouse.
Visit
GVCO.ORG/CREW
for complete schedule and registration. Not sure? Rowers can attend FREE open house practices on Feb 24, 26, 28, & 29.
Please register

Business Sponsor Spotlight

Kim & Gregg Tashjian are long time supporters of GVBL and GVCO. Through the years they have donated thousands of dollars worth of ice cream cones, blizzards and cakes to numerous GVCO events and programs.
Having purchased the franchise in 2008 after managing the store for 8 years, Gregg began supporting GVCO after his kids were introduced to some of our programming. For many years Gregg also coached his sons in the GVBL Rec league and "went out on top", coaching his team to victory in the championship game of our GVBL high school division!
DQ in Lincoln Court has been the "go to" place for ice cream for students and families here in Great Valley for many years. In addition Gregg continues to employ local students every year, as he is extremely dedicated to the community. This past December DQ once again gave away free ice cream cone coupons during GVBL games around the holidays.
Thank you Kim and Gregg for the years of support!
And if you have a craving for something sweet, be sure to head down to DQ and say "hi" to Gregg and grab some ice cream!
