A Personal Note from Sylvia Happy New Year, or, as we say here in Hawaii, Hau'oli Makahiki Hou! In honor of the new year and the new decade, this month's sale features music about days, weeks, seasons, and years. When I was a kid, we always had a Girl Scout Calendar on the wall. Then, when I started visiting Hawaii in the late 1980s, I bought calendars with beautiful Kauai photos, so I'd have a bit of the islands back in California. Now, I don't even own a wall calendar; I keep track of everything on my phone and computer. But, here's a bit of calendar trivia: did you know that I was once a calendar centerfold model? Yup, I was. A Fun Version of Pachelbel's Canon

Any harpist who plays weddings knows that Pachelbel's Canon is a vital part of their repertoire. It is probably the most-requested piece by brides.  My cousin recently sent me this link to a video of the Canon played by train horns . I thought it was one of the funniest things I had seen in a long time. I hope you enjoy it, too!

To find out, watch this video by Pavel Jirásek, who edited short bits from ACETrainsUK’s horn 7m50s compilation of trains in the United Kingdom with other clips of train horns to create the melody of the famous composition by Johann Pachelbel.

Calendar Centerfold

Did you know that I was a calendar centerfold model?!?!   In 1983, harpmaker Jerry Ganyer and harpists Melissa Morgan and Tina Smith created a "1984 Harp Calendar" featuring 11 well-known harpists. Each month featured a photo and information about the harpist and the melody line of one of their songs. A Halloween-themed harp photo was October's image. This informative calendar also included a brief history of the harp.

I sold this wall calendar through my mail order catalog in 1983 and 1984. Some people even bought copies after it had "expired" because they loved the beautiful photos. Also, I explained that the calendar would be good again in the years 2012 and 2040!   Since I was "Miss June," my page was right in the middle of the calendar. So, although I didn't have the proverbial staple in my navel, I was, in fact, the centerfold!
