Happy New Year NTMCA Members!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed time with family and friends. Now that January has arrived, it is time to get back into the swing of work and preparing for the upcoming election cycle.
I would like to express my gratitude to those who joined us on December 13th for the Holiday Luncheon in Keller and encourage our members who could not make the luncheon to attend our January 16th meeting in Lewisville. We have a dynamic speaker coming in January and I have extended the invitation to the Lone Star chapter as well as the Yellow Rose chapter to attend. So, if you have anyone in your office or know of someone that can benefit from our great speaker (details below), please encourage them to attend.

DO you have unclaimed cash or does your city???
The Texas State Comptroller has more than $5 billion in unclaimed cash and property just sitting in the vault waiting to be claimed. Some of it could be yours, and you don’t even know about it. Any time someone forgets to claim money/property, such as dividends, payroll or cashier's checks, abandoned bank accounts and safety deposit box contents, insurance proceeds, mineral interests, rebates, overpayment of utility bills and more - those funds are sent to the Texas comptroller’s office.
That money stays there until it’s claimed. Generally, businesses turn over money to the state after it has been deemed dormant for one to five years.
- Go to the state’s official website, claimittexas.org.
- Hit the “Get Started” button in the middle of the page.
- Enter your name and then search for your current address or a previous address where you have lived.
- Hit the “Claim” button.
- Answer the questions and claim your money or property.
The whole process takes just a few minutes and it’s suggested to search more than just your name. Search the names of close relatives who have passed away to see if they have money or property that you may claim as an heir.
You can also call the Comptroller’s Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at 800-321-2274.
This is a great article to share with your citizens. Post it on your website, Facebook page and include in your next newsletter!
