Library News and Events
Special Library Hours:
Tuesday, January 28 Open 2:00-5:30 PM (Closed 10-2 for staff training)

The library is wishing everyone a very happy new year! How many of you are making new year resolutions to start working out and eating healthier? It’s hard to do in such a fast paced world with so many responsibilities pulling us in different directions!

Have you considered adding a resolution to just sit down, relax, and read for one hour? Studies have shown reading can both reduce stress and help with retaining cognitive ability as we age. Reading also helps us in learning to empathize by putting ourselves in another’s shoes (even if the other is fictional) while expanding our vocabulary! It’s a win-win new year resolution, and guess what? It’s calorie free! So feel free to indulge. Some of you overachievers may decide to read and exercise at the same time. Does that make reading a triple threat? If you decide to read, we’ve got just the book for you. If it’s not quite the right fit, we have thousands of others for you to try.

January offers other great ways to unwind with programs on a multitude of
topics including story times, book discussions, a 2020 astrological outlook, a historical look at the Super Bowl, and so much more! Swing by, grab a book, and learn to crochet with Carlotta. This month the library gallery will be displaying “Threaded Planet” by local artist Arshad Aziz. Stop by his reception to learn about where art, environmentalism, and fashion intersect in West Orange on Sunday, January 19 from 1:00-2:45 PM.

Last month the library hosted our first holiday reception in about 20 years. It was a great success. We look forward to continuing the tradition!

Coming in 2020...
For those of you who have not been to the library recently, BCCLS is unifying its item loan periods throughout the system. Please see below for how it will effect you!

BCCLS will also be incorporating auto-renewals beginning Friday, February 14. Available items will be automatically renewed at the time courtesy notices are sent out, 3 days prior to due date. Patrons will receive three (3) additional days as auto-renewals will occur at the same time as courtesy notices. Bear in mind, not all items will be automatically renewed so it its important that you continue to monitor your due dates.
