2020 Underserved Summer Institute

The U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), in partnership with the Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO), will host the:

July 21-23, 2020

Do not make any travel arrangements at this time
This in-person event is mandatory for all active Underserved grantee organizations which are expected to send two project team members.

Grant Progress (Muskie) Reporting
Grant progress reporting is due January 30!

Here are some resources from VAWA Measuring Effectiveness Initiative (VAWA MEI) at the Muskie School of Public Service. These resources are tailored for the Underserved Program to assist grantees in their reporting.

Open OVW Solicitation
The solicitation is now available for the FY20 Underserved Program , as well as for other OVW programs. The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) invites you to apply for their programs. Please be aware that the FY20 Underserved application is due February 12.

Beyond Checking the Boxes: A Discussion on Education Program Evaluations
Time: 10:00 am PT, 11:00 am MT, 12:00 pm CT, 1:00 pm ET
Date: Friday, January 17
Evaluation is critical to sustain the impact of our work and justify what we do. The webinar will discuss the critical points at which we should evaluate progress in the training design process, outline the types of information to collect, and provide tips for how to use data.

Serving Survivors who Have Service Animals
Time: 11:00 am PT, 12:00 pm MT, 1:00 pm CT, 2:00 pm ET

Service animals are vital to some survivors with disabilities. However, domestic violence shelters and other residential programs might struggle with how to interact with service animals and balance the presence of service animals with needs of other survivors.

Stalking and Older Adults: An Overview
Time: 9:00 am PT, 10:00 am MT, 11:00 am CT, 12:00 pm ET
Date: Friday, January 31
January is Stalking Awareness Month. Participants will learn how to recognize stalking behavior, how stalking impacts older adults, and what resources are available to help them better respond to stalking.

2020 International Conference on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Violence Across the Lifespan
Date:  April 14-16, 2020
Location:  Washington, DC
EVAWI's annual conferences focus on sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, human trafficking and elder abuse. This three-day conference will highlight promising practices and emerging issues to effectively responding to these crimes in all of our communities.

National Sexual Assault Conference
Date: September 2-4, 2020
Location: Anaheim, California
The National Sexual Assault Conference (NSAC) brings together over 1700 people who are invested in ending sexual violence. This annual conference provides opportunities to share information and resources, advance learning, develop new skills, and increase our capacity to assert the dignity of all people.

Registration will open Spring 2020
*   To use OVW grant funds for any training & technical assistance opportunities, you must submit a Grant Adjustment Notice (GAN) through the Grant Management System (GMS) to request approval. ALSO Underserved TA Project webinars and in-person trainings (including New Grantee Orientation) do not need prior approval.
