January 2020 Lake Committee Update

With the ice forming on the lake, it is very easy to see how well the diffusers are working to aerate the lake, as there is no ice forming around them. The cold water temperatures are also helping greatly to improve the visibility in the lake, with the water looking very clear.

The surrounding lake shore is looking very festive with lights on trees, decks and even a sailboat! The eagle has been frequently spotted enjoying the scenery around the lake.

With New Garden Township purchasing the St. Anthony’s property and the development plans proceeding for the JP Morgan Chase property, the Lake committee has taken an active role with representing the community’s watershed/lake interests. Bill Ward is planning a presentation to the Township Board of Supervisors to follow up with them on what was learned from the stream monitors that they purchased, and Scott is going to talk about the lake restoration plan. The JP Morgan proposed development plan will also be discussed. We are glad to have two years of monitoring data to use as a baseline when discussing the watershed conditions and to be able to quickly notice positive and negative trends as they occur.

The Lake Committee wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and healthy New Year!

The next Lake Committee Meeting is scheduled for January 9, 2020 @ 6:30 PM at the Clubhouse.

Architectural Committee
The Architectural Committee wishes you a Happy New Year!
Interior Committee

The next Interior Committee Meeting will be Tuesday, January 14th, at 6:30pm.

Playground Committee

The next Playground Committee meeting will be Tuesday, January 14th, at 6:30pm.
Santa Stopped by the Lake

Our very own resident, Carrie Borden, had a chance meeting with Santa the morning of December 24th. He said he was walking in preparation for all the cookies he would be eating on Christmas Eve. Thanks so much for sending in the photo! Carrie, you really must have been good this year.

Fitness Center Update!
A new Fitness Level keypad was installed and is monitored by a new security company. You will no longer see a green light after you enter your code but the door will automatically open after you enter your pin code and enter the # sign (often referred to as the pound sign, number sign, hash, or octothorpe). Please remember to enter the # after you enter your code. The # is needed after you put your code in the key pad. Your old code will work - you do not need a new code. If you are having any issues accessing the Fitness Center please contact the clubhouse via email at slakehouse@verizon.net . The numbers were manually added by security company and there were some errors. Please remember our fitness level hours are 5am to 10pm.

Please note, the aerobics room is not available until 12Noon on Sundays due to a recurring, private rental, every Sunday morning.
Be a Good Neighbor and Clean Up After Your Dog
It doesn't take much to remember that we have dogs in our community. In fact, if you don't watch your step, you’re liable to step in one such reminder!
Besides being unsightly and smelly, animal waste can be hazardous to the health of our children who play in the community and other pets. One of the most common forms of disease transmission between dogs is through fecal matter.
When walking your dog in our community, remember that it should be leashed. Also, it is important to remember to immediately clean up after your pet. Take along a baggie with you to pick up waste with and then dispose of it properly. Please do not leave your dog’s waste on your neighbor’s property.
By taking a few simple steps to clean up after your pet, you can contribute not only to the beautification of our community, but also towards the elimination of one of the most irritating nuisances in our community. Thank you for your cooperation!

Somerset Lake Wine Over Water
We kick off the new year Friday, January 10 starting at 7 pm at the Clubhouse. The theme will be “Winter Warmers”. Feel free to expand beyond wine, to other beverages such as eggnog. As always, snacks are welcome, but not required. All Somerset Lake residence are invited.
Now some follow-up news...
First, our founder Kris Johnston successfully arrived on the Isle of Mann with both cats, joined husband Mark and began checking out the local Taverns; some of which apparently have “tavern cats”.
In December we had a great WOW, Wine-over-Water, holiday party with buffet dinner and gift exchange hosted by Renee and Tom Felder. I have found for me this group has become a supportive community of friends here at Somerset Lake.
