Chainsaw Safety Tips & Tricks
If you missed our women's chainsaw safety workshops this past year, no need to worry, our experts have you covered! While there are lots of safety precautions that everyone needs to follow when operating a chainsaw, there are some specific considerations women should keep in mind. Interactive Landowner Resources Tool
The Sentinel Landscapes Partnership has released an Interactive Landowner Resources Tool. The product allows landowners and others to find voluntary state and federal assistance programs, including those that cover or support prescribed burning. Users can filter by different categories, see important program information, and export filtered results to a PDF.

Extension Forestry and Wood Products Directory
Are you looking to foster new connections in the new year? The Extension Forestry and Wood Products Directory is available now for use, providing a national network of over 300 extension forestry and wood products specialists, educators, and leaders. You can search the directory by name, institution, location, and specialty. We hope this resource enables you to create new connections and partnerships this year. You can find the directory here.

Proposals solicited for 2020 Enviva Forest Conservation Fund
The U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities recently released a new request for proposals for the Enviva Forest Conservation Fund. Up to $500,000 is available for 2020 grants to protect bottomland hardwood and other wetland forests in northeast North Carolina and southeast Virginia. You can find information about the RFP and additional materials on the Endowment's website. The deadline for proposals is Jan. 24, 2020.
Coming Events of Interest to Woodland Owners

January 10, 2020 (F), 9:30am-4pm, Places We Live: A Project Learning Tree High School Workshop. Location: Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch, Greensboro, NC. This workshop will dive into how we find a sense of place within our communities, and how trees play a role in our community character. Greensboro-specific examples and case-studies will be presented. This workshop is ideal for educators working with students in grades 6-12. Please bring a bag lunch, this workshop is being provided free of charge through a generous sponsorship in memoriam of Ruth Buckingham. January 13, 2020 (M), 8:30am-3:30pm, Environmental Education for the K-8 Classroom: Project Learning Tree. Location: Belmont Abbey College - Sacred Heart Campus, Belmont, NC. Join other K-8 classroom and nonformal educators as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree K-8 Curriculum Guide. Every participant will leave the workshop with the PLT K-8 Activity Guide which includes 96 activities correlated to the NC Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards. The PLT activity guides are provided free of charge to participants through support from the NC Forestry Association. CEU renewal credits are available. This workshop qualifies for Criteria I in the EE Certification Program. Registration deadline is January 8, 2020, and you can register by clicking here, the cost of the workshop is $20. January 24, 2020 (F), 7:30am-10am, Managing Your Land and Legacy: Opportunities and Options. Location: Hyde County Government Center Multi-Purpose Room, Swan Quarter, NC. The Eastern North Carolina Sentinel Landscapes partnership is offering a series of landowner outreach meetings. Attendees will be exposed to federal, state, and private resources and programs all geared to keep agriculture and forestry lands in production by meeting the objectives of the private landowner and producers. Attendees receive a copy of the Conserving Working Lands handbook and a chance to speak to local representatives during the "Conservation Speed Dating" portion. Click here to register.

This workshop will lead participants from investigating the benefits of trees in our urban communities to discovering forests and their uses around the world. This workshop is ideal for educators working with students in grades 6-12.
