DAUGHERTY, William Telfair (1890-1958)
The William Telfair Daugherty collection contains 42 items dating from 1909 to 1912 specifically, approximately 40 letters, 2 postcards, and several pieces of ephemera written to his parents between 1909 and 1912 when Daughterty lived in Ann Arbor and attended the University of Michigan.
In his letters Daugherty gives detailed reports about attending classes and extracurricular activities on the Michigan campus such as the Cercle français.

William Telfair Daugherty was a Lieutenant in WWI. He served in the National Production Authority, an agency of the United States government which developed and promoted the production and supply of materials and facilities necessary for defense mobilization. He was the author of German Chemical Developments in 1926-1929, The chemical industry in Czechoslovakia (1930), and The chemical industry and trade of Sweden (1931). He retired from public service in 1953, died on 21 February 1958...

Edward Solon Goodhue letter collection contain 17 items dating from 1890 to 1892, specifically, 16 ALS (74 pp.) to Dr. Peter C. Meengs and a 4-page promotional leaflet promoting “The Poems of E.S. Goodhue” no date.

Group of 16 handwritten letters from Goodhue to his friend and medical colleague, Peter C. Meengs. 15 of the letters date from April 1890 to June 1892. The last letter is dated April 5, 1898 and was sent from Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. Goodhue and Meengs were classmates at Rush Medical College (circa 1890-1). Meengs completed his studies in 1891, a year before Goodhue received his MD degree. ...

BERRIGAN, Daniel (1921-2016)
Daniel Berrigan was American Jesuit priest, anti-war activist, Christian pacifist, professor, playwright, poet, and author. In May 1968, he and his brother, Philip, along with seven other Catholic protesters, burned the records of the Catonsville, Maryland, draft board with homemade napalm. Their arrest, trial, and sentence to 3 years in prison propelled the Berrigans to national prominence. His poetry book, “Time Without Number,” won the prestigious Lamont Poetry Prize in 1957.

Frances Parkinson Keyes was a prolific American biographer and novelist whose novels were set in New England, Louisiana, and Europe. In 1904 she married Henry Wilder Keyes (1863-1938), a Republican politician who served as Governor of New Hampshire (1917-1919) and as a United States Senator (1919-1937). A convert to Roman Catholicism, she often used Catholic themes in her work.

Joseph Heller was an American satirical novelist, short story writer, and playwright. His second novel, "Something Happened" published in 1974, spanning thirteen years after Catch-22, his best-known work. VAN DYKE, Henry [1852-1933]
Henry Van Dyke was a Presbyterian clergyman, author. He served as a pastor of the United Congregational Church of Newport, Rhode Island. In 1883, he left Newport to become the pastor of the Brick Presbyterian Church of New York City where he stayed for eighteen years. While in New York, Van Dyke gained a national reputation as one of the greatest preachers of New York City and also published his first book in 1884, The Reality of Religion. In 1900, Van Dyke became the Murray Professor of English Literature at Princeton and would remain in that position through 1923, when he retired. In 1908-1909, President Woodrow Wilson appointed him the United States minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Text has detailed descriptions of thirty different flowers. Original green cloth boards, with gilt titles and decoration to front, blind stamped titles to rear, a little soiled.

For this 2nd edition book, Agnes FitzGibbon created and paid for eleven new stones at Burland L’Africain Chromolithographers, Montreal. The plates were numbered I-X, and the designs of II, III, IV, V, VI, and VII were reversed for aesthetic reasons. FitzGibbon painted 5,500 more sheets with transparent washes; stencils sped the pace of the work.
Overall a good copy of this beautiful book...
