Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ)
CSJ provides quality summer jobs for youth and is an initiative of Youth Employment and Skills Strategy
Some noted changes for 2021:

1) an increase to the wage subsidy, so that private and public sector employees can receive up to 75 per cent of the provincial minimum hourly wage for each employee;

2) an extension to the end date for employment to February 26, 2022; and

3) allowing employers to hire staff on a part-time basis. 

Applications will be accepted until February 29th.
Employee One Survey
Labour Market Group Renfrew County and Lanark
This survey, for Renfrew County and Lanark businesses, aims to identify local workforce needs and challenges. While there have been multiple provincial and national surveys, this is the only survey providing local information to inform local services and job seekers.

You can complete the 10 minute survey online or call (613) 867-2544 and share your responses with a staff member. Survey is open until February 26th.

Businesses who participate will be entered into draws, eligible to win, one of 30 $100 gift certificates and two $500 grand prize draws.

CEBA (deadline March 31, 2021)
The Canada Emergency Business Account is offered through the Government of Canada. It recently increased from $40,000 to $60,000 and offers businesses a 0% interest loan with the possibility of a third bring forgiven. Terms apply. If you previously successfully applied, you are eligible to re-apply for the additional $20,000.
A grant from the Government of Ontario for businesses with 2-9 employees to cover up to $1,000 for PPE costs. Eligible businesses include retail, gyms, personal services, accommodations, food services, and maintenance. 
The Regional Relief and Recovery Fund is available through the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation. A second intake opened late 2020. Local businesses can get a 0% interest loan of up to $40,000, a portion of which is forgiven based on terms. Businesses who have received CEBA are eligible. 
(deadline January 31, 2021)
The Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy is for businesses with decreased revenues as a result of the pandemic. Eligible businesses can apply to have a portion of employees' wages covered. Recent changes extend the subsidy to June 2021.
The Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy is a voluntary rent relief program.

The COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program for Small Businesses is being revamped. Stay tuned

Local Supports
This recently created interactive website, with app features for phone navigation, allow local Petawawa businesses to share promotions, news and service messages for public viewing. The site provides direct purchase opportunities connecting the public with participating business social and web shop platforms. This resource is an initiative of the Petawawa Business Advisory Network (PBAN) and is a medium to reinforce the shop local movement.

Some of the benefits of this resource are:
  • the site is a quick collective of registered businesses operating in our community;
  • open to commercial and home based businesses;
  • the site showcases what your business is offering. It can be a day or term promotion or part of greater themed package content;
  • branded content you create for your other social sites can easily be loaded to this site. Saves you time and money.
  • the site supports and promotes the collective message and reinforces the importance of shopping local and supporting small local businesses;
  • with all the changes on social sites and feed frequency, allows your crafted messages to be seen to a wider audience than just those receiving your social feeds. We promote Shop Petawawa to the public through a variety of formats, radio, print, social platforms, message boards etc. Use our marketing dollars to grow your business and drive sales; and
  • one on one support is available to get your business connected to able to use this site; and
  • FREE support and site use with no hidden extra charges (like similar style sites)

Events, Workshops and Notices
Cabin Fever 2021
February 19 - February 28 (moved from January)

Community Service Department will be hosting a series of virtual and limited access events as part of a revamped Cabin Fever 2021.
  • Virtual Bingo
  • Virtual Trivia
  • A Virtual Food and Beverage event
  • Additional activities include a comedy night, snowshoeing, snow drags, polar bear plunge and other outdoor winter activities are also being planned.

We are looking at some in-person activities, subject to health and safety guidelines.

Service Concierge
The Service Concierge partnership including Petawawa, the City of Pembroke, Laurentian Valley and Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation are looking at series of financial themed workshops and supports for businesses. The program, will be a slight adaptation to the digital media program created and offered in 2020, and will be offered virtually. The partnership is planning programming for February. Stay Tuned.

Community Improvement Plan (CIP)
With support from Council, a consultant will be engaged to help undertake a CIP for Petawawa. A CIP is a structured document, in accordance with Section 28 of the Planning Act, which defines and enables municipal incentive programs, the only way financial incentives can be made available to support private public sector businesses. Feedback from local businesses will be an essential part of this program development in 2021.
