President's Message
Happy New Year!

I hope this message finds you doing well and looking forward to a fresh start in 2021. I’m very honored to become the President of the Iowa CPCU Chapter. I want to thank Chris Murphy and Jeff Wilson, outgoing Immediate Past President and President respectively, for their help and guidance as we transitioned our roles. Chris and Jeff have served the Iowa Chapter for several years with significant contributions benefiting all of us. On behalf of our entire chapter, we appreciate all your time and effort!

As it was in most aspects of our society, 2020 was a challenging year for the Iowa CPCU Chapter. It’s still hard for me to believe that we have not gathered in-person since our ethics meeting last March. When the day comes that we can once again meet in-person, my appreciation for seeing all of you face-to-face is something I won’t take for granted.

Choosing to find opportunity and potential when faced with challenging times is a quality that leads to success and something our Iowa Chapter has embraced during the last year. We pivoted to completely virtual chapter meetings, continued to engage candidates and new designees through a first-ever virtual open house, and successfully stayed in connection with fellow CPCU’s while learning valuable information at the first virtual I-Day in our chapter’s history. The resiliency and perseverance of our chapter reflects how our industry continues to respond to crisis to benefit society. Thank you to our Iowa Chapter board members for your leadership in creating value despite so many challenges. And, thank you to all our members for your commitment, flexibility, and patience as we’ve worked through these changes. Your continued participation in chapter events is very much appreciated!

As I look ahead to our upcoming year, I am excited about our plans to continue bringing informative, relevant content to you while keeping us all connected as CPCU’s during this time of separation. Vice President, Sara Van Wyk, is a long-standing contributor to the chapter and will do a great job of planning our monthly meetings. I encourage you to stay connected with us on our website, social media, and monthly chaptergrams for up-to-date information on events throughout the year.

Thanks again for your continued support, and I look forward to working together to make 2021 another successful year for the Iowa Chapter!

Brad Soma, President, Iowa CPCU Society Chapter
